That's correct. The Mary Jane Girls' songs have stood the test of time.I still hear "In My House" and "All Night Long" played regularly on the R&B oldies stations.I never hear "Nasty Girl" or anything from the Apollonia 6 album.

Can we really say that across the board P's music was "better"? Really? I dunno, Nasty Girl is definitely the jam of all time BUT aside from a few others here & there those albums weren't brimming w/ good shit I consider them classics, but come on. MJG's had more good ones than you're giving them credit for. If P's music was better, it was only a little better. All Night Long, In My House, Hurting on the Inside, Candy Man, Boys, Jealousy - y'all might be trippin' a little

Vanity 6 couldn't handle ballads Their voices were too weak for ballads.Their attempt at a slow song ("3x2=6") is horrible The Mary Jane Girls had several cool slow jams,my favorite is "Shadow Lover"

Yeah, All night long is still very popular; it was even selected by the gamers of GTA Vice City as the best song of the entire soundtrack

I loved both Vanity 6 and The Mary Jane Girls. I listen to NASTY GIRL, CANDY MAN, BOYS, IN MY HOUSE, and ALL NIGHT LONG to this day. Those songs would be the best thing on radio now, if they were new.

Its hard to choose b/c I love Mary Jane Girls, but A6 and V6 were sorta like Prince albums with female voices.
I hate to be a fam, but I would go with Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 If you will, so will I

I only hear "Nasty Girl" when it goes into those "'80s request" shows but "All Night Long" gets played 24-7. "In My House" is a pop classic, of course, and who can forget "Boys" and "Candy Man"?
Plus their vocals were more stellar and while they weren't as edgy musically or clothes wise ( ), they were still sexy to me so I go with the MJGs!

The only song that I like from V6 was Nasty Girls and all the rest of the songs on the album were mediocre. But A6 songs

I'd have to go w/ MJG..BUT if both groups reuinited for one show only, and it was on the same night, Id be watching Brenda flick cigarrette ashes on mofo's from the front row! So, maybe Im just confused.
how 'bout I like em both. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

That's probably why I like Vanity/Apollonia 6 better because they haven't been overplayed by the radio or gained the younger generation's acceptance. As for the radio, they really need their ass beat for not playing "Candy Man" or "Boys". The reason they play "In My House" so much is because it was a crossover hit. The reason they play "All Night Long" so much is because it was a slow song that was a hit (today's generation doesn't like fast jams) and it has also been sampled by a few shit hoppers. Reasons like those turn me off. Andy is a four letter word.

how 'bout I like em both. It's a hard choice - just for the nostalgia/Prince factor I'd wanna see them, but I wouldn't wanna HEAR them For my ear though, I'd wanna see MJG. Damn, I really wouldn't know who to choose in that circumstance

how 'bout I like em both. If my memory serves me correct, brenda was the other black woman in the group. I thought she was sexier than vanity. Those photos of her in lingerie used to constantly give me a woody. Don't laugh at my funk

There's no competition here. Mary Jane Girls win hands down. It's not a Prince/Rick James thing it's just a talent thing. The Jane Girls had far superior voices and being in the music industry, that's what counts.

Don't forget the annoying "Take me with Youuuuu" or the God awful "Manic Monday" duet with his royal baddness.

Boys candy man all night long jealousy in my house shadow lover break it up With the mary jane girls you could tell rick had a flair for some of the earlier motown girl groups Vanity 6's nasty girl could rock with any mary jane girl jam but everything else especially appolonia's sex shooter and blue limousine were very cheesy. Shadow Lover was the shit. Jo Jo really sang her ass off in that song.

I love The MJG AND Vanity 6. Although The MJG had more hits, "Nasty Girl" will be more remembered than any of the MJG's songs IMO(although they were quite good).
I do have to give the edge to MJG for vocal talent, but Vanity 6 gets my vote in the sexiness, funkyness and fineness departments. It is interesting to note that the two "fonk pimps" (Rick and Prince) were in direct competition with one another with their respective girl groups. What I don't remember right now is who brought out their group first. I know that Rick tried to answer Prince with Process and The Do-Rags to compete with The Time, but that project was not even close. Anybody remember that? A bit off the subject, I know, but the girl group competition reminded me of this.
