RIP Bobby Byrd We are very saddened by the death of Mr Bobby Byrd, one of the true legends of Soul Music. Bobby Byrd passed away today around 1:30pm (EST) at his home in Georgia. We will miss him and we send our deepest condolences to his family.
Bobby had made his last appearance at James Brown's funeral last December. His last show he performed with the Soulpower Allstars in July 2005 at the Supernatural Festival in Holland. We are glad that we got to know him and work with him and we will always treasure the fun, laughter and good memories. Bobby was scheduled to appear at another show with us on September 22nd in Belgrade, Serbia. R.I.P., Bobby. [Edited 9/12/07 15:41pm]

In the last four or five years, God has been getting bored up there so he's bringing all the good people to be with him and leaving the dull ones down here with us. Rest in peace Bobby. Andy is a four letter word.

This is terrible. I think Lynn Collins passed away in 2005, JB last year and now Soul Brotha #1 and a half.

Bobby Byrd is probably one of the most important figures in music. Why? If it wasn't for Mr. Byrd, who know what James Brown would have been/done.
They met around 1951, while JB was in prison. They would talk over the fence and even play against each other during baseball games. Finally in 1952, the Byrd family got "Music Box" out of prison early only if they would take him in, find him a job and keep him out of trouble. "Music Box" joined Byrd’s gospel group, "The Flames." At that time Byrd and (I believe) his sister were the main attractions of the group, JB was just the drummer (or any other instrument they needed him to play) at that time. Around 1955, JB started to get more and more attention and he was finally put out front. They recorded "Please, Please, Please" in 1955 and got some attention. Finally in February of 1956, they got signed to King records and later that month released "Please, Please, Please." Mr. Nathan actually hated the record and I believe only put it out so it would fail, well it charted at #6 on the black charts and the rest is history.
