I'm not feeling the cross promotion thing, considerind she told Wendy Williams she never took any deals in the 90's during her peak because it was tacky and crossed the line of artist integrity, but then again it is now the norm, White Stripes are doing Coke comercials. I just hope these enorsements dont actually cross over to her music! I dont mind if the video has any promo (ceuse i cant see it when i listen to the CD, but dont build anything musically around the product, that would be whack.

her deal with them is for 3 albums, and the 4th is optional.
[Edited 9/12/07 11:53am]

Will she take the option? that clause I'm sure was there for their purposes, their doubts. they even signed Rhianna upfront with a 6 album deal! she's already half way done! lol its hasn't even been 2 years

It'll be interesting but im sure that Def Jam will want to know if she is gonna take the option first before anything. Because the last thing Def Jam will want is putting out tons of $$ on promo and then the album being huge and Mariah walking on them to get more from another label. Mariah can pretty much write her own ticket at this point. She is nearing 40 (god i cant believe that) and labels usually frown on age these days, but not with someone like Mariah.

Wow. All that promotion and the sales are still under 10 million. Demonstrates how bad album sales are right now...

Jury Duty Postage Awareness Stamp? lol

I absolutely hate the perfume venture. Everyone seems to do it along with a clothing line and seldom do the perfumes actually smell inviting. I wouldn’t mind her doing print ads for a quality fashion name/product like Uma Thurman for Tag Heuer or Halle for Versace. Loved her Pinko ads tho.

Thats just US numbers though, worldwide its probably double. Mariah has often sold more overseas than here, very similar to Bon Jovi who have sold 125,000 million records worldwide and less than half of that is in the Usa. My guess is the USA will never see another "Diamond" album from anyone, unless it re-works its accounting which they are planning on doing.

I never know what people sell these days. I use to know numbers of my favorite artists but I’m so over sales figures.

Well as usual Mariah gets those Legs out there so i dont care where she turns up and at what event. The perfume venture pretty much is a must for artists now, they have to generate $$ because the music isnt doing it for anyone at this point. So for artists that are "mainstream" or "Iconic" you pretty much need other avenues, like clothing, perfume etc.

Well i agree mainly because almost all the artists i like barely have sales figures at all, or at least ones that get spoken of. I cant really do a post on Katharine Mcphee selling 400,000 records, i dont think people would wanna know. But in reality i think we are all a little out of it with sales, we would be shocked i think more by someone selling 5,000 albums in Russia being equal to the revenue of selling 50,000 in the usa.

I can’t even imagine what some of the other artist I like sell. I always imagine that it’s me and like a handful of their core fans rounding their sales out to a cool 5,000 copies.

I use to follow closely, professionally and as a hobby but I just can’t care about the business anymore. I worked in music (retail and offices) and am glad that I’ve moved on. I’m strictly a consumer now although I understand how the machine works, I don’t like it.

I agree, i did the same thing for a long time so i had to know it on a daily basis. Now i only know it when other fans of an artist i like post it.

Well i think they just caught on to the trend of sales and also looking to the future of themselves really. I mean some artists might have shitty deals or some of them that pay out so much to sampling and beats that theres nothing left after that. So the other avenues can be very lucrative im sure, i mean an example would be Katharine Mcphee, great voice, good album, has sold about 400,000 here in the US, im sure she got almost nothing off that, but she has 2 endorsement deals, one with "sexy hair" which was a six figure deal and other upcmoning deal for next years "Gilette" campaign which Mariah and Rhianna have done.

It might get pushed back if she takes any longer? but I doubt it, It was just revealed that Parkinson will do an hour show with her this year on his last season, and she's releasing a live album/dvd set thing the week before her new album!
This i belive was on promo crap for her fragrance. Finally a Live album and a concert, she had been working on this Live album and DVD for over a year almost as long as the studio album.

The Madonna fanatics are going to be furious about the "best-selling female artist of all time" line.

who cares.... its not like we pocket that money anyways lol lol

but you know what... i hope she doesnt name her new album "Sweet Soul Odyessey".. that sounds ugly... I thought the TIOM was a little off... but this doesnt' sound like a good name for album... just from the name alone people might not want to buy this album

Mariah or Madonna fanatics should both know that Barbra Striesand is the best selling female artist of all time.

She's in the Top 10 with both her and Supremes..but Barbara still has outsold everyone. I had a link to a site with the stats...I'll have to find. I have access to Soundscan but that would only give me Soundscan era numbers...

btw, referring to Mariah as the best selling female artist in history is because they combine her albums and singles sales worldwide which i recall amount to around 180 million copies. But yes, if we're talking albums alone then i believe it's Barbra who comes on top.
