Ever wonder what it's like in the studio?

Some of you may have seen this before, I posted on the NPGMC board 2 years ago, but in case not...

Mixerman is a professional recording engineer & mixer in Los Angeles, who used to run a forum at the ProSoundWeb. During 2002, he began documenting the daily occurrences at a session he was running for a bidding-war band, making its debut with a famous producer.

The results mutated into one of the most insanely funny, accurate and devastating portraits of life in the record business I have ever found. He's a good writer and keeps things sarcastically rolling forward into areas of egomania, delusion, incompetence and flat-out viciousness with a smirk and a cocktail.

The diaries online go to about the middle of the project... after that, you'll have to buy his book to see how it ends. I actually did, and still pull it out once in a while. It's good stuff. So if you ever wondered what it's like ion the trenches with a talented young band whose dreams are about to come true...

I read this a couple of years ago, bought the signed book and all.

Was the band Velvet Revolver?

I've heard some various theories floated about the identity of the band... none definitive.

One of about a thousand albums recorded in LA that week though...

One of the theories is that, this is not a literal documentation of a session but rather a collective of anecdotes from across the guy's career.
If that's the case then there is no "album". But Mixerman, when pressed, insists that it is all true as it is written.

This is entirely too good.
I was so tired before I started reading this but I made it to Week 4 and I want to keep going.
So funny and great insight into recording, band producer-engineer-band dynamics.
Thanks for posting.

Oh my goodness, the memories...

and people still wonder why I listen to predominantly DIY noise music these days myself.
