The Jacksons "Goin' Places" Album

My parents have had this album for years but I never really payed too much attention to it until now (though I was familiar with the title track and "Man of War).

Does anyone else like this album though? It's not their best effort but I do think there are some solid tracks on here and it's much better than their albums "The Jacksons" and "Victory". I really love "Even though You're Gone", "Do What You Wanna" "Man Of War" and "Find Me A Girl" where I think Michael voice really shines.

I like it, I don't think it's better the their CBS debut though? The title track is one of my least favorite on the LP. My favorites are probaly "Do What You Wanna Do" "Even Though You're Gone" "Jump For Joy" "Different Kind of Lady"and "Man of War."

The Jacksons were almost released from their CBS/Epic deal because of this lackluster LP. The highest charting single came in at #52 I believe.
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Yeah I know sales for "Goin' Places" were very lackluster but I do think it's better than their debut. The only songs I liked off of that album were "Show You The Way To Go", "Good Times", "Enjoy Yourself" and "Blues Away".

Thats it! Damn near every track on that album was a jam. What about "Think Happy" or "Strenght of One Man" or "Style of Life."

it's a good album, i really like -

Goin' Places
Different Kind Of Lady
Even Though You're Gone
Heaven Knows I Love You, Girl
Man of War

Its the album where the Jacksons started to write and probably learnt a great deal off Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

I never cared for this album. It was very bad compared to the self-titled debut. I think it was that Gamble and Huff weren't the main producers/overseers for this project. I think Joe's head got a litte too big at this point.

I think Michael does some of his best vocals on this album, his voice sounds so full and stronge. The song of Even Though You're Gone is one of his best ballads.

hmmm
Saw this album on my last vinyl dig. Didn't buy it though.
Might have to check it out in the future.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I saw it on CD for the first time a few months ago and bought it. I really haven't listened to it enough to give an honest opinion. I remember the first two or three tracks being decent but I skimmed through the rest of the tracks.

Goin' Places is technically and musically not a very good album, but I do enjoy it very much. I agree with the comment that Mike's vocals are strong, but I think that the songwriting is a little weak. Nobody mentioned Music's Takin' Over--am I the only one who likes that song? I also like Different Kind of Lady, Jump For Joy, Find Me A Girl and I'm sorry but the title track is the Jam!!!!!

Your not the only one LoveSexy, Music's Takin' Over is the jam IMO off that album.

Goin Places was a step back from the previous album, it's surprising that Gamble & Huff couldn't come up with some stronger material.

I do like the way "think happy" follows "enjoy yourself" as they're both in the same key.... Think Happy is a top tune....

Going back to 'goin places'... I actually do like the title track... its like a call back to the old motown joints... now imagine the funk brothers playing that arrangement? James Jamerson woulda been bad-ass with his basslines.

But "different like of lady" and especially "even though you're gone", for me are the top joints.

I never heard this album, but I am familiar with the two singles: the title track (which isn't very good) and the slow jam "Find Me A Girl" (which is excellent).
