The state of music today - or - corporate music sucks Okay, here we go again:
I cannot stand the fact that a TON of "rock" bands have fucking "djs" scratching records, making a cacophonious sound like cats fucking on an electric fence. The "djs" in rock bands serve absolutely no purpose, as there is a band that is playing music... all they do is stand there to give the band some kind of popular image. I cannot stomach the fact that the fucking corporate "music" industry is shamelessly chasing trends at the expense of creativity and originality. How many Backstreet Boys, N-sync, Brittney Spears, 98 Degrees, etc. do we really need? Too many shitty videos are produced to push the mindless crap that passes as music today. Do we really need to see a bunch of boy bands dancing around on television, or Brittney Spears running around? Why can't videos be artistic? Can Prince please, please save us? So... I am glad to hear that boy bands/Britney type acts are dying!!! I don't watch videos, so I don't see what is popular... I just remember that crap being popular... what shit it is. Maybe if, TRC got more airplay, and better Marketing. It would have done the trick. TRC was very 'original'. Yet I don't think Prince's goals for TRC, were to break into the bedrooms of teens, whom love NSYNC and Slackstreet, I mean BackStreet

THE CORPORATE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS RUINING MUSIC The reason they've got DJs is because they want to appeal to the biggest demographic as possible and they succeed. Fake angst, DJ's and skateboards is all you need these days. Thing is their fan base often consists of kids who will simply abandon them in a couple of years and they offer no longevity which is why the music industry is in the state it is. Isn't is just fucking sad how the music industry is going to complete hell? How many bands that are considered classic would even be given the chance for more than one album today? The first record comes out, doesn't do huge numbers... the label drops them, learns from their mistake and never signs a band like them again... signs 1,982nd rap/metal band, complete with dj, skateboards and angry faces. What can save us? It's all this nit picking and creations of sub-genres. Everything created under a major label is done with MARKETING in mind. Not reaching out to as many people as possible, but reaching out to as many people in a single market as possible. It's laziness. They box acts up into labels and genres just so they know how to promote them. If it fails first time, they give up since very few people at the top in the industry know or care about music or developing acts. | |

The only way you guys are gonna get any satisfaction is to turn off the television and go out and see the real bands. There are some great indie bands out there doing it and they probably will never get signed, and many don't want to. They do whatever the hell they want and how they want it. Go over to www.cdbaby.com and check out some music in the genre of your choice as well as www.cdstreet.com. These are indie distributors and I've found some great music over there, just randomly listening, especially by way of funk and rock.
To hell with mainstream music. The only way the industry will change is if we boycott them by turning off the radio and buying CDs sold by indie bands. At shows these guys will sell you their CDs for $10 or less. LQ | |
