Jam of the Day: "Midnight Hour" by Roger featuring The Mighty Clouds of Joy

This is a great remake of an old classic. Anyone into this one?

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Good song, but I don't like Roger's version at all.

Actually, I never liked the original version but I loved Roger's. Same with Roger's version of "Heard It Through The Grapevine" and with Amii Stewart's "Knock On Wood" as compared to the originals. I usually hate remakes but those three I prefer.

I really liked Wilson Pickett's version of Midnight Hour. It is definitely a true "soul" record. His vocals are raw and the groove couldn't be beat. When Roger remade it, he took the soul out of it and left us with with a bad 80s remake.

As for other remakes....it depends. Songs like "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Knock On Wood", etc.I like the originals and remakes. I love all 3 popular versions of Grapevine. Gladys' is a 60s danceable song, Marvin's is a soulful rendition, and Roger's is pure funk.

I gotta disagree. Wilson Pickett's version is raw and real soul. Roger's version of "Midnight Hour" is soulful & funky. I played the 45 daily once I found it as a kid (13 yrs old) Plus you cannot miss with the Mighty Clouds Of Joy singing backup! I still get goosebumps when I hear Roger say Uh-huh....Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby"
We run tings, tings nah run we....
