Much love to Kool Herc. He started it all, I know a lot of people on this site don't like Hip-Hop, but if you look back at its begining, it was VERY than what it has become. It's just over commercialized now, and I'd bet half of the people who buy rap albums have no idea who Herc is or how Hip-Hop developed. I love Hip-Hop, and I'm a 'purist' of the art form; there is still good Hip-Hop being made today, it just gets completely overshadowed by the trash you hear on the radio and see on BET, MTV and everywhere else. Hip-Hop today is just a casualty of the music business. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

That name sounds very familiar. I've heard the name all my life but don't think I've ever heard him personally. Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah, it's a shame when our people are too ignorant to know their own history. If people my age heard the hip-hop back in the day and really study it, half of what's out now wouldn't stand a chance.

Hip Hop was all about the music, the people, the Dj, the MC, the party y'know? hip hop culture isnt even a culture anymore, its a washed up memory of how something that once was is now some bottom bitch in the industry pimp's car

You hate Hip Hop and you never heard of Herc? I don't hate hip hop, I hate shit hop. I have heard the name Kool Herc my entire life but I haven't actually heard anything from him. I'm from Mississippi. We got a whole lot of stuff here but there was also some stuff we didn't get here. I was always into the magazines like "Right On" and "Black Beat". That could possibly be where I heard the name. It was in those magazines that I read about Sylvester back in the day but never actually heard his stuff until I went to gay clubs in the early 1990s. Andy is a four letter word.
