I haven't posted on here in awhile, but I just turned passed the JT show and thought dag, how hard is he biting Prince's Musicology tour. Even my brother, who isn't a Prince fan per se, but went to one of the Musicology shows said that JT had ripped Prince. When I told him that John Blackwell and Mike Scott were from Prince's band on that tour he was like WTF?? It's crazy how much these young cats cop Prince but don't want to admit it.

The thing is, when I see crap like this, it just reminds me how cold Prince is.
perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

justin's just smart. he wants a sound, he knows the players who can execute that sound, he hires them.

that ain't no different from what prince does when he needs a band.

Justin also stated during the interview before the concert started, that Prince was one of his influences.

i don't even know what that face is about. lol

ask almost any performing musician on this board if they would like to work with blackwell, scott, wendy, lisa, or any other prince related band member (excluding tommy barbarella and tony m) and they will tell you yes.

y'all are only treating justin differently because of who he is. period and you know it.

I don't know if this that simple just the sum of the total.

Justin just seems to be really tryin' to "do Prince" at this point.

I think its funny how many ppl call Justin "smart".

lawd.....he's so not innovative.

successful business does not necessarily require innovation.

justin is "tryin'" to do a lot of people. he seems to be trying to appeal to a pop audience while branching out and stretching his assigned genre. he started out as a boy band member and got out of that sort of stereotype. now he's trying to move the mark a little more.

it's not only prince he's emulating on this record. he's trying to do bowie, prince, michael...heck, on lovestoned i always think of kraftwerk a little. no, i think justin is not so much trying to be prince but rather trying to be more than the "ex-boy band member justin timberlake." i think it's working.

It seems to me you are saying in a round about way that people hate justin timberlake simply because he is a white guy doing supposedly r&b. People didn't like justin as a member of nsync where he sowed his pop roots. They happen to have an r&b sounding record called gone and he figured i can go solo and tap into another audience and make more money which he has done while running to timberland all in the process and people have been ripping timberland too. They are both capitalizing off each other. People also didn't like how he handled the janet fiasco too. The truth of the matter is people who want real blue eyed soul want robin thicke, hall & oates(sara smile), teena marie, and average white band. We don't want phony justin timberlake w/timberland's infantile connect the dots beats.

I don't see where's the problem...

Nobody said nothing when Prince decided to take Larry Graham or Maceo Parker in his band... lol

Nobody said he tried to be JB, he tried to be Sly... No that was OK...

I won't blame JT for that, Prince did the same thing too... lol

seems to me all that is beside the point. peeps are coming down on justin because he's using musicians who happened to work with prince and all i'm saying is there's a clear double standard. it's only because he's justin that people are complaining.

I personally don't care whether he is using prince musicians or not. He still sucks live or on record or however you want to put it. He could use rick james stone city band and he will still sound like shit. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

that's just it, dude, i'm NOT comparing them. i'm simply pointing out that its an industry standard to use musicians you just so happen to like. wow. what a concept. i sincerely hope you don't think prince came up with that one. lol

Miles

Unless JT has a good bandleader, I wonder if John Blackwell misses the freedom and yet strict direction he must have had while in P's band.

I can just see JT nudging Blackwell off his drum stool to expertly demonstrate the funky drum fills and accents he wants halfway through the final chorus of 'Sexyback'. lol

We are treating him different because he is ripping P off big time. Great to be influnenced by other artist but, get an original idea.

Justin can't even come up with his own concept for his tour.
