Just think if Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were able to produce tracks for the Time?

Just think how successful the time would of been if Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were able to produce tracks for the Time? It's a shame they were never allowed input into the Time's material!

Was it because Jimmy Jam and Terry that the Time broke up?

Prince is an idiot. Not just with the Jam and Lewis thing, but a lot of happenngs during the 1980's. Prince could have actually had a little dynasty goin' the 80's Motown really.

If Prince wasn't such a big headed, ego maniac, he could of had it, think about Prince.

First he would have had to start Paisley Park earlier then 1984, say about 1980-81ish. The first he signs is who, the Time. Now he could have given Jam, Lewis some freedom to work the board. Jam end Lewis get their names out, they sign artist they were producing in the mid 80 from Tabu, Alex O'Neal and Cherrelle. Now Prince still sees over their work, a la Berry Gordy but they are still under Jam and Lewis, al la Holland-Dozier-Holland.

Vanity 6 is his next artist to sign under the Paisley Park imprint. Also, if Andre Cymone wants to go solo, he will under Paisley Park same with Dez Dickerson. Morris wants to put out solo records, boom under Paisley, Jesse wants to do his own thing, boom under Paisley and he may bring the Crash and Tamar along with him. Shelia E can also do her own thing under PP.

Jam and Lewis want a little bit more "Control" they can start their own label under Paisley Park (like Gordy and Tamala under Motown). They can start their Flyte Tyme Productions under Prince's label. Then you've got Monte and Jellybean producing artist under this imprint to.

What could have been, oh well.

That sounds great! Too bad WB would have owned all of the Masters 4 it. Then the dispute in the 90's would have been even nastier. Plus Prince doesn't trust many people. I think him giving that much power 2 JJ & Terry would scare the hell out of him.

But he would have made WB lots of money! lol

Jimmy and Terry had a lot of great productions in the 1980s but none of them were as hard and funky as The Time was. I'm happy with The Time just the way they were.

"It's Your World" was written and produced by Jam & Lewis. They also share writing and productions credits on the following songs:

"Pandemonium" (with Prince and Jesse)
"Sometimes I Get Lonely" (with Morris and Monte)
"Blondie" and "Skillet" (with Jesse)

I know you meant earlier in their career, but I had to point that out anyway. razz

I agree with alot of those ideas.Paisley Park Records could have been the Motown of the 80s if Prince had played his cards right. He should have hired Jam and Lewis as in-house producers.Andre Cymone could have been an in-house producer as well. There was so much talent in Minneapolis that Prince could have used to build a lasting empire.Imagine what Jam and Lewis could have written and produced for Jill Jones....imagine Andre Cymone producing some funky Mazarati jams, helping to establish them as a top-notch 80s funk band. The possibilites were endless.

I forgot about the late 80s and folks like The Family, Jill Jones, etc. Yeah, Jam and Lewis would have done a much better job producing them because they would have given them that cold signature Minneapolis Sound instead of the artsy/fartsy sound that Prince gave them. But as far as the early 80s go, none of them did jams as hard and funky as Prince. Why, of why, did he have to lose his mind and go all artsy/fartsy. lol

This is why the Mazarati album is so satisfying. It was straightforward Minneapolis funk...no viloins and shit lol I enjoy it a whole lot more than 'Parade'.

Exactly. And it was Brown Mark's project. If it had been Prince's, he would have put some Liberace type shit on the album in the state of mind he was in at the time. Hell yeah, the Mazarati album pisses all over "Parade". lol

I wasn't talking about Mazarati's clothes (which I like), I was talking about if Mazarati had been Prince's project, he would have put some Liberace shit on their album (meaning classical music like he had put on his "Parade" album during that era). That God, Mazarati was Brown Mark's project because Prince had lost his damn mind during that era. lol

I know. Prince probably figured, "If I can't make the band sound like Liberace, at least I can make them look like him." razz
