The greatness of Marvin & Tammi and Ashford & Simpson I'm amazed that of all the Marvin threads and no one mentions how great he was as a duet singer.
I'm gonna start this thread off like he does in concerts when he was doing his duet medleys: "Marvin had been around some lovely ladies from Mary Wells, Kim Weston and Ms. Diana Ross, but one woman always stood out and that was TAMMI TERRELL!" Why hasn't Tammi been inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame least as part of the Marvin-Tammi duo? Those guys created a dozen hits together but Tammi hardly gets the recognition she deserves for being a spectacular vocalist herself. Maybe it's because Motown limited her solo status as soon as she started gaining hits with Marvin but for goodness sakes, she played a pivotal role in the development of R&B and in Marvin's career. Tammi impacted Marvin so much that he dedicated What's Going On to her legacy. It's sad that she died at such a young age too at 24 from a brain tumor. Also, Ashford & Simpson were able to build heavy from Marvin & Tammi since they were really the first artists before Diana to give them the big success that they achieved soon afterwards and were in many ways influenced by M&T to do their own duets. Their legacy together has influenced other duos and even its music is being copied (need I to remind you of Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" which sampled "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"?)... So why in this board is it not talked about or have I missed discussions about it since we're having Mike Jack(son) fever and shit? "Ain't no mountain high enough..."

It's been done before.
As a matter of fact, one of my posts regarding Your Precious Love contains VoicesCarry's superlative phrase regarding the song's bridge. tA: And the bridge, the bridge. It's like a good desert after a great meal. VoicesCarry: And tA, that ain't a bridge, that is the most delicate of Victorian arches. Classic! tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Good point dude, they Marvin and Tammi were dynamic together, a lot of people don't really know, or actively listen to Marvin prior to What's Going On. I think if Tammi had lived, she would have scored some solo hits in the 70's. Who know, she could have had a hell of a career, she damn sure had the talent for it. But Marvin was just the man vocally, he could 'blend in' to any song and still come off strong.
As for A + S, I have always loved them, because even though most people only recognize them for 'Solid', they were crucial to Motowns rise to fame. They were a driving force behind a lot of those early hits and they are still kickin' today. So much love to Ashford and Simpson. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

But yeah, "Your Precious Love" is MAJESTIC.
