Rolling Stones '40 Licks'....anyone in a Stones mood???

Cuz of the hype surronding '40 Licks' and the 40th anniversary of their being...did any of you pull out your old Stones gems???

I pulled out Exile, Some Girls, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Black and Blue...and played the hell outta em...

Such a great band...

My brother bought 40 licks and i've gotta say i'm disappointed with the way they've edited so many songs, actually it's more like butchered! The omissions of Waiting On A Friend and She Was Hot are unacceptable too. You Got Me Rocking instead...*rolling eyes*

It's actually made me dig out albums like Black And Blue, Undercover and Goat's Head Soup. The early stuff is quite well presented, but the mid 70's work onwards is definitely less so. Though i guess the average person who buys 40 licks isn't even gonna care!

they already did, a few years ago...some with the original packaging, only CD sized...they sound a lot better than the originals that were released when they were with Columbia Records...

I like "Forty Licks." Sure, some of the songs are a bit edited, but anyone who already has "Jump Back" is used to that. It's not meant for hardcore Stones fans (which I am...but I'm also a collector!); it's meant for casual fans. And, as such, it's a great compilation. For just two CDs, it's got a hell of a lot of classic Stones shit. Sure, we could all point out THIS song or THAT song that didn't make the cut. But that's going to happen with ANY compilation! The new songs have yet to really grow on me, but I'll give them time.

The Special Edition's booklet is pretty cool; I haven't seen the standard packaging yet.

To any Stones fans who don't have any of the ABKCO remasters from the '60s - GO BUY THOSE FUCKING CDs!!! They are amazing!

Still, to not have included Waiting on a Friend is just inexplicable. But yeah, I'll probably pick this up. I'm just a very casual fan anyway...

jtgillia - look for it used!! Oh yeah, it probably won't be that good if you buy it used. However, if you pay top buck, it should be great...right!!!

and no, i haven't seen the standard issue packing yet, but i am curious... it's only $18 at best buy... i almost bought it today out of curiousity...

I feel like I am sinning by not immediately going out and gettin 40 Licks(what a title!) last Tuesday. But it will def be a part of my collection--what Im excited about is the Hot Rocks and Let It Bled(!!!) remastered...It will be nice having 40 Licks though( what a title!) to have mid seventies shit on their like Angie, Fool To Cry etc.in one sitting. Isnt Rock and a Hard Place on there? I know they got my shit Love Is Strong on it (good call). Yeah Im gonna get 40 Licks(what a title!). ...one beef though--shouldnt have added those 4 new ones and used others, but, like Sausage Kang said, coulda shoulda woulda. BTW people who are in the know are ALWAYS in a Stones mood.

what I like about 40 Licks is that it's pretty much the ONLY Stones cd set I'll ever have to buy..!

Angie
Miss You
Beast of Burden
that "Devil" song with all the "woo woo"s throughout..
Start Me Up
Emotional Rescue
etc.

cool!
I'll see you tonight..

you'd be much better served by getting the 2 disc muddy waters remastered "anthology" or the box set really... both have all of the songs from the "his best" series and them some... plus the "anthology" has much better sound on it...
but any muddy is good muddy...

that said, i still think that everyone should go out there and get a copy of "40 licks," "let it bleed," "sticky fingers," "exile," and really damn near all of them... the stones are the greatest rock n roll band of all-time...

I would have said the CHESSBOX anthology, but that's OOP.

Chess do a mean Howlin Wolf 1cd compilation too. I still think they've not done a comprehensive Muddy Waters one though as yet. You know put all his work with each label together, its about time they did.
