Atlanta Montreux Jazz Festival This Weekend

The Montreux Jazz Festival, in its 41st year of presenting the most famous musical event in the world, seeks to share its rich tradition and experience by partnering with countries across the world. Carefully selecting sites on each continent, Atlanta was selected as the only North American city to play host to a Montreux Music Festival.

As a festival partner of the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, the Montreux Jazz Festival Atlanta has been a free Labor Day tradition since it’s inception in 1988.

In 2006, the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs created a collaborative relationship with Underground Atlanta to re-invent the Montreux Jazz Festival Atlanta presented at Underground. Montreux Atlanta provides an international festival over Labor Day Weekend that attracts regional, national and global visitors.

The Montreux Jazz Festival Atlanta is a three day music festival that features all genre of music. Embracing the diversity of the Downtown Atlanta entertainment district, the festival presents free performances on two stages, featuring R & B, Blues, Gospel, Rock and Jazz. Other features of this years’ festival include:

• Live performances on 2 stages
• Aretha Franklin in Concert @ Chastain Park (ticketed event)
• Montreux Jazz Festival Live Performance Film Series
• “Blues, Bourbon & Barbeque” Boat Ride (ticketed event)
• Interactive family fun activities
• Exhibition of Montreux Posters
• Montreux Atlanta Club Crawl, featuring live performances
• Open-air vendor marketplace market featuring the finest merchandise and
most delicious foods.

The multiple venues in the Underground Atlanta complex, will offer simultaneous performances throughout the weekend with clubs programmed for a number of intimate concerts and late night experiences. Festival goers will be able to live the spirit of Montreux right here in the heart of Downtown Atlanta!

Stay tuned for a list performers and more exciting information regarding the 2007 Montreux Jazz Festival Atlanta. Please note that we do not solicit information on performers. Our performers participate by invitation only. Any information sent in will be confiscated.

A few days ago,I heard that Aretha had cancelled this appearance, saying it's been "too hot" in Atlanta for her to perform. She cancelled another recent date in Detroit for the same reason.

Any idea if the show is still on?

I just looked further on the website and it seems she has, indeed, cancelled.....but I do not know why.

It is hot down here, but gee.....

They said she cancelled because of the expected "extreme hot weather" in Atlanta lol She's one of those artists who should only tour in the wintertime, lol.
