Well, much as I enjoy his sub Carlos Santana interview style, it might be a start if he talked a little more sense instead of that babbling, hippie double-talk! : wink

I was expecting him to pay tribute to 'Master Prince', and was gratified when he did. biggrin

I particularly liked this bit -

How do you maintain your dreadlocks?

I have a spaceship visitation every fifth Thursday for the maintenance of my head space.

eek cool

Calligraphy

I'm glad I soldiered on past the horrible green screen and his declaration that he originally was from Alpha Centauri and the Plaedon system, to read his posts about cultural colonialism and constraints.

But I wish he could have just said he has a loctician who maintains, cuts and dyes his locs on a monthly basis. lol

And I take it you are nobody! You are probably too tuned into what MTV/Vh1/xyz corporation tells you to listen to!

And actually, a lot of people listen and are interested in his music.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

truth be told, i have everything of his up right up to wildcard and i love his work. i was just taking the piss because, well, nobody cares about ttd and nobody even knows who "sananda whatever" is.

i really like the guy's music but he never managed to find his own persona. he always came off as the poor man's prince. shrug

If you like his music you should try and spread the word. His music is incredible and he has major balls for releasing his music on his own without any major corporations whatsoever. I mean don't you agree that it's better for an artist to release their music without having to water it down? Yet when an artist attempts to do just that you decide to slam him because Joe Blow who listens to Justin Timberlake and Nee-Yo and G-Unit and the rest of that garbage doesn't know who Sananda Maitreya is? Fuck those people. Those people are fucking idiots. Why does their opinion matter so much to you? They are too busy keeping up with Paris Hilton and Hilary Duff anyways. If you like Sananda's music you should try and support him. A lot of people read this forum.

I love Prince's music, I think he's a genius, and I dig Planet Earth, but I personally find MUCH more substance and meaning in Sananda's music.

i guess i'm just used to the average person having no clue who some of my favorites are. most people don't know sufjan stevens, wolf parade, david bazan, !!!, page france, and a lot of the other bands/artists i listen to. it's ok...it's just music.

plus, my personal experience with ttd really didn't leave me caring whether anyone ever bought another of his cds.

Alright cool, it looks like you have some good musical taste. All I'm saying is that if you think his music is good you should stand up and support it rather than dis it! But I'm glad you are a fan and sorry if I came off angry, it's just that I'm passionate about music in general in Sananda's music in particular. cool

by having his music then u already know who he is. if nobody else does then maybe u should play some of his music 4 them so that they do know who he is. and if he's a poor man's prince, then is prince a poor man's james brown?

btw TTD is influence by James Brown as well

I doubt you were complaining much about it back in the days when MTV/VH1/XYZ corporation was telling you to listen to Mr. D'arby. Or Prince for that matter.

Well I'm not sure how old you are but MTV/VH1 and the entire music industry has really changed since the 80's and early 90's. What I'm tryin to say is that in the 80's and early 90's you could still find some great stuff on Mtv/Vh1...it all went to hell in the late 90's with all the teen pop bullshit. So the point I'm trying to make is that "back in the days" (the last time Sananda was on MTV with a new video was in 93!) they would still play quality music on tv and in the radio along with lighter pop stuff as well but nowadays on MTV/VH1 99% of the stuff they play is FORMULAIC garbage. Nowadays you really have to look elsewhere to find quality music in my opinion.

I hate when Sananda gets compared to Prince like that....The only reason people do it is (for the most part) because he's black, he plays funk & rock, and he plays most of the instruments on his records (usually). The truth is his music sounds nothing at all like Prince. You can hear the influence of The Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder much more prominently. I'm not saying Prince isn't an influence, Sananda himself has said that Prince is an influence, I'm just saying that to say that he's a "poor man's Prince" is bullshit, it's just making a quick assumption based on the fact that he's black and he's a multi-instrumentalist, because his music sounds VERY different from Prince's.

BTW, L4OA TheOriginal, I know you aren't calling him the poorman's prince, you're just replying to someone else's quote, just to be clear, I'm just saying this because I've seen that title thrown around and I totally disagree.

my statement that he's the poor man's prince has nothing to do with musical style and everything to do with persona. have you ever heard this guy's rambling? he gives interviews in the exact same style as prince used to. prince changes his name, so naturally ttd changes his name.

no, ttd's music is very different from prince's style. that doesn't change the fact that it's painfully evident ttd wants to be prince. lol

newsflash: in the 80's, Prince and Terrence Trent Darby were the teen pop bullshit that was being crammed down everyone's throat. It's just the teen pop bullshit you grew up with and love.

Please don't tell me you can't see the difference between Prince and Terence Trent Darby, and NSync and The Backstreet Boys.

sure, i can. but i can't tell the difference between New Edition and Boyz II Men and Nsync and the BSB, but you get people talking up New Edition around here like they're any more credible than any other boy band, just because that's what they grew up with.
