If Joss Stone calls herself a soul singer how come she is not on shows that involve soul music

How come Joss Stone does not appear on Showtime At The Apollo, Soul Train or the Soul Train Awards. The television shows appeal to the people who are fans of soul and R&B music how come she is never on there.

Robin Thicke has been nominated for a BET Award I am just wondering and don't say because she is British. Corrine Bailey Rae is from England and she's been nominated. Do you guys believe she is using this soul music thing as a gimmick and to make herself more interesting.

Not to be rude or anything, but I don't think Joss' music has been exposed to a black audience that much. The reason why Robin and Corrine has been more acclaimed and have been more recognized on Soul Train, BET, and other urban shows is because they had way more promotion and exposure. Joss still hasn't gotten that chance, but she will.

I'll take a fake Joss Stone with brilliant Raphael Saadiq production over Robin and Corrine Boring Rae any day of the week.
A more appropriate question would be "Why isn't Eric Robertson, Raheem DeVaughn, Van Hunt, Peven Everett, Joi, Meshell, Omar and Martin Luther there."

She's 17 and is totally unique and white , with an old school voice, a real talent...that is NOT manufactored!

Must soul always mean black or African Am.Music is so too often placed in a nice box by the suites that know 0 about music, but are all down with image!

The crux of the answer to your question can be found analyzing demographics, marketing and getting the largest sales return on a record label's investment.

Raheem DeVaughn nod definitely. I can feel that man's soul when he sings.

Well first i dont think Joss ever labeled herself a Soul Singer, she has mentioned her influences but those titles are media creations. Second Robin and Corrine have gotten more press and push from video and radio. And last Soul Train and the Apollo lost their "SOUL" about 2 decades ago. Call me when they start getting back to what a "Soul Singer" is, if they really want to promote it.

I like some of Joss's songs but I would consider her more to be pop...or hip pop...thats what I call it (Fergie, J.T, Nelly, etc).

Your question is fair, but based on the premise that those TV shows support soul or R&B music. I don't know whether that's the case.

Soul Train is done. Soul Train Awwards are just about done. Showtime at the Apollo is near-done as well. So, you chose the wrong venues in this case. wink
