Rilo Kiley: Under the Blacklight I always feel like I'm talking into the void with this band, but I'm gonna do it one more time.
Their new one, while pretty much loathed by old-school fans, is definitely worth checking out. Delves into Fleetwood Mac dreamy pop, funny disco, light funk and R&B--and of course a few of the countryish tunes that fit Jenny Lewis' GORGEOUS voice so well. I'm not sure it all works together very well, but it's pretty great stuff taken individually. If anything, I think it might appeal to many folks on this board more than any of their previous albums. I do really like that, much like Prince, they're willing to keep experimenting, and seem to have an endless appreciation for different kinds of music. Don't like the cover though! I love Rilo Kiley!
I like the single I downloaded from this album. I'll probably pick this record up later in the week. It's much popier than their older albums but I love me some Jenny Lewis! .. Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I am an casual admirer of Rilo Kiley and a big fan of Jenny Lewis' solo outing. I haven't heard the new album but the next time I post here I will have listened and tell you what I think of it!
I like artists/bands that have more than just one sound under their hat... it's what made me a Prince fan in the 80's (and why I am so bored to death with his current day music). Artists like Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis and the likes make music still interesting to me.

I'm not even sure what the single is...Moneymaker? I like that one, once I got over how it sounds like a porn star doing Led Zeppelin karaoke!

So many of their fans seem to hate this one, because they're not just doing their hipster LA indie rock anymore....but that's got to get old after a few albums, I imagine. Heard one track from them a while back and it was interesting. Must check out more of their stuff. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

As a whole I do not dislike it all. Good songs, great lyrics. It's all there. But I have to get used to that this is Rilo Kiley. I will let it work it's charms then report back.
