Mobo awards are a big joke So here I am watching the MOBO awards... what a cringefest! There is something very wrong when the "best hiphop" category includes top 10 rubbish like Nelly and P Diddy and all that rubbish.
At least Miss Dynamite got some props, well deserved. The funniest thing is that old-timers like LL Cool J and Jimmy Cliff were by far the liveliest and the best performances on it

The funniest bit so far...
Chaka Khan's lifetime achievement award. The montage piece listed at length all of the artists Chaka has collaborated with. Except for Prince. They even played her big hit "I Feel 4 U". Still no mention of Prince. Am I the only one who feels that Prince deserves some props for how he has helped Chaka over the years? Oh wait, there was "Come 2 My House". I guess it's probably best not to say anything then

the biggest joke about the mobo awards is that it simply shouldn't exist. i know black/ related artists should be aknowledged, but in that case there should also be a wobo awards. but obviously everyone is gonna go mad about me saying that, but why shouldn't there be? would it be rascist to have a wobo awards? if so then why is it ok to have a mobo awards? i'm slightly perplexed... think i'm gonna lie down. i look forward to the abuse this is gonna get. oh, and ian you're just sour cos prince didn't win a thing.

It's because she's older than Prince they assume it must be her original I guess, same with Tom Jones and "Kiss".

Hee, hee...noticed something similar with the BET Awards this year. Earth, Wind, & Fire got the crowd (young & old) on their feet and havin' a funky good time after most of the audience had been sitting in their seats comatose for most of the show. Kinda sad when u think of what the future will hold once the pioneers/instrumentalists are gone. PEACE

PEACE That's what Prince should have done when he won the Best Artist of the Decade or whatever it was from Soul Train a couple years ago. The show sucked with all kinds of lame lip syncing. Prince could have come out there and blown everyone away. But all he did was make a speech and thank them for the award.

Oh my. It's on TV right now. LL Cool J just blew EVERYONE out of the water. I mean Ashanti was the worst performer/singer on there. The Sugababes mimed through a dull performance - probably becaus eevry other time they've attempted to sing live they can never sing in time or tune and they get drowned out even in a TV studio over a backing track, letalone on stage with a proper band behind them.
Chaka Khan is yet to come on, but I saw footage of her performance on the news. Looking forward to it. Jimmy Cliff now effortlessly performing with Dave Stewart. I quite like Ms. Dynamite, but her live performance wasn't all that great. Just goes to show the lack to real performers these days. I didn't think much of Beverley Knight's album, but I was hoping she would turn up because she's excellent live.

Yeah LL Cool J (nose job n all) and Jimmy Cliff were the highpoints.
Craig David's song wasn't too bad, albeit dated and with poor lyrics. I prefer it to any of his past stuff. Chaka seemed very rushed at end and didn't even do a proper medley, just "I'm Every Woman", maybe that song is all they wanted so when Whitney pulled out... Other than the above it was uninspired and poor, the whole Murder Inc/Ja Rule/Ashanti thing being main draw is just sad. Ms Dynamite seems nice girl and has used good producers in studio but she's not that special overall sadly, especially onstage. [This message was edited Thu Oct 3 16:39:24 PDT 2002 by Essence]

Of course but Chaka herself says shes sick of "I Feel For You" as it's the signature song shes most expected to perform. Right down to it's infamous Stevie harmonica and Grandmaster Melle Mell rap.
