Records are supposed to be sold... Right ??? And if people buy records that means they like it. And that's also an accomplishement for an artist to sell a lot of records... So yeah we talk about it. lol

Sales do have a relative context, because it is an indicator of how well an artist connects with an audience and to what degree. I feel what happens is that there are some people who literally look at it as the sole indicator of success and misapply its context.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

But I'm not talking about the trash. I'm talking about the good/great songs. And it's all subjective anyway. But consider the classics; the 25 best selling albums - all great sellers.

Britney and all those awful boy bands sell well too. The fact of the matter is there is a lot of rubbish that sells well and there is a lot good stuff that doesn't sell that much at all.

And you talk about the 25 best selling albums of all time - Is Whats Going On? one of the best and most important albums ever made amongst those top sellers? I doubt it very much.

'What's Going On' is a HUGE seller. I agree one of the best albums ever, may not be in the top 25, but it's up there.

Question. What's a better album? Sign O The Times or Diamonds and Pearls? Answer: Sign O The Times. Question. What sold better? Sign O The Times or Diamonds and Pearls? Answer: Diamonds and Pearls. Case closed.

P.S. What's Going On was nowhere near as sucessful as albums by Britney Spears, The Spice Girls or Celine Dion or half a dozen tacky soundtrack albums. Those albums also outsold anything by Bob Dylan, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell.....Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Tom Waits.....The Rolling Stones, Prince,.....The Smiths, Kate Bush.....etc, etc, etc.....

Are there any numnuts out there who still think record sales reflect quality?

LOL!!!!!

I just had a discussion about record sales with someone at work today..we were talking about the Rock and roll hall of Fame and he said that record sales should be the main indicator for inductees.(he's a hair metal fan and its upset that more hair metal bands arent being recognized in the RRHOF)
LOL

some of my favourite albums are ones that have sold the least or considered by most as flops. shrug sales don't matter to me. if i like the music, i buy it.

Agree. I prefer Michael Jackson's HIStory to Dangerous. And the latter is considered to be a much bigger commercial success than the former. Does not make me like the music more.
