NO! TotalAlisa, I told you it would be a bad idea comparing the two since both bring out the worst in people -- I should never have suggested the idea to you in the first place. As a MJ fan, I admire and appreciate his music and performance more, but I can understand why millions feel the same about Elvis.

I think this debate is like beating a dead man. Frankly, I think both are alike in many ways. True, MJ does have bigger record sales and probably achieved more fame than Elvis, but Elvis's legacy can't be taken away. True, he may have been somewhat of a front for rock and roll, winning millions of fans and becoming a superstar while black performers like Little Richard were considered taboo. But he was still one hell of a performer.

I think one should say that MJ got to a level that's only matched by either Elvis or The Beatles(hell, maybe throw in Madonna),but to say that he's greater than Elvis is pretty pointless.

sorry... i already made a thread... its not to create an argument... just a fun debate... I don't even want to tell people my real opinion of elvis because it would create a war on this board.. so im keep quite...

How would MJ versus Elvis ever be a fun debate?

These MJ threads are out of control.

Er, but back in Elvis' time, especially in the '50s, there was a thing called segregation, making it difficult for the various races to mingle in public anyway.

With Elvis and MJ, we're dealing with very different eras, and imo they can't be compared for that reason. Both sold tons of records, but record sales sure don't equal quality.

Exactly. MJ and Elvis threads are ALWAYS out of control. Having them in the same thread scares me.

TotalAlisa: You make me laugh. And people take your posts too seriously. But you do realize that you are exposing yourself to ridicule with thread titles such as "Why MJ is greater than Elvis" or statements such as "Almost everyone likes a MJ song." A lot of people are going to disagree with you. I like you, and think you bring a level of humor to the org (of course, most of the time I am laughing at you, not with you -- j/k). biggrin I just hope you realize that you are not going to convince people that MJ is better than Elvis with this thread.

It's a joke. Your posts often make me laugh, because in spite of your diehard love for MJ, you are capable of wit in your observations.

Um, I don't know. Why come here and tell us we're haters and not real Janet fans because some of us didn't think 20YO wasn't a friggin' masterpiece or weren't back flipping over her last three releases?

20 YO wasn't a freakin' masterpiece and this is coming from someone who truly loves her. 20 did however, have so strong singles on there. Allot of which sounds awhole lot better than most of the crap played on radio today. She suffered due to lack of support from her record company amongst other things. She's my favorite female entertainer. MJ is my favorite male entertainer, then PRINCE. Now, this Elvis vs. MJ thing is well, it's inevitable. MJ's music far exceeds race, color religion, geographic boundaries as well as culture, that's a fact. Elvis was good. Pretty good, the media makes him out to be more than he truly was as far as reaching the masses of people who loves' music another fact. I may be the minority on THIS one, but one way MJ truly stuck it to Elvis fans as well as his legacy was to marry his daughter. Now, if that's not given them the middle finger, I don't know what is. Oh and to add insult to injury, he owns some of his music too. DAYUM!!! Both artist are influential.
Only, one artist is forced on the public while the other isn't. We don't know what MJ's next move will be or when his cd is coming out. It's a good thing. He knows how to let folks miss him. The guardians of Elvis's estate doesn't.
