Test Screening for Mariah's New Film a Disaster

This can't be true. Everybody, please write to your favorite film columnist and tell them to review the film honestly.

Roger Ebert did say the film was good though.

Mariah should leave the acting to real talents like Madonna

lol Uh, I don't think he said a word about it. I do like that whoever wrote that wrote it as if Ebert himself were a Mariah fam.

I have seen a rough edit of Tennessee and all I have to say is "Wow!"
Is Ebert always that profound? smile

Notice how this became "Mariahs" film when test screenings went wrong, all along i was hearing about the Great Director and all the stuff he did, and as soon as it sucks it gets dumped on her.

True. Forget about all the other key people involved in making a film. I'll reserve judgement especially since I heard this weeks ago and that it wasn't true.

So you're telling me the Mariah fans weren't referring to it as "Mariah's film," but instead as "Aaron Woodley's film?" I find that hard to believe. I don't know that he's directed anything anyone's ever heard of.

Drone (2008) (in production)
Tennessee (2007) (post-production)
Rhinoceros Eyes (2003)
Bed and Breakfast (2000)
Downpour (2000)
The Wager (1998)
Pipe Dreams (1994)

I have no idea what they think of it as or call it, but good or bad its the directors shit. As for Mariah i have said it before in terms of her doing films, shes a comedian to me, she should be doing something NOT serious, maybe playing a Bond Girl or something like that, but whatever.

I know you weren't asking me specifically but I always referred to it as a Lee Daniels film even though he's not the director. I've been interested in the film because of Daniels and Mariah just happened to be in it which as a fan was a bonus. I never heard of Aaron Woodley until this.

Yeah Lee Daniels was the one i heard mentioned all the time when this project was started. I dont think this film will affect Mariah good or bad, I mean its not like shes doing the whole soundtrack and starring in it and all the things she did in Glitter, so good or bad it will have no meaning to her music thats due out this fall.

Here's a snippet of an interview with Daniels and picking Mariah for Tennessee sorta echoing your thoughts about MC doing comedy, Lastdecember.

DANIELS: I'm very excited about working with Mariah Carey because she's an underestimated genius.

BOYKIN: Interesting. She's definitely a musical powerhouse, but I don't know if she's known for her acting, especially after Glitter.

DANIELS: But people didn't see that [other] movie she did, WiseGirls, with Mira Sorvino. She was to die for. I saw that movie and she was brilliant. Everybody wants to point to the bad. We always look to the bad instead of looking to the good. An actor is as good as his or her director. And I think that people want to point fingers and hate. It's instinctive. It's nature. And that does not make for great film makers.

BOYKIN: You've mentioned Mariah Carey, Mos Def, Macy Gray. Those are all musicians who are transforming to acting. What do you think about that trend?

DANIELS: I think some of the most brilliant actors come from a place of comedy or music. They're all artists at the end of the day. And I find that when you're working with comedians or musicians they're more hungry for direction and more eager to jump through hoops. Hence often times brilliance comes.

It's only a test screening. The new Mariah blog is updated with a comment from Lee Daniels, who says the film is actually really good:

www.lambsareus.blogspot.com

First of all, the movie isn't even finished yet. We did have a test screening for the rough cut of the film but the feedback was far from negative. In fact, people liked it so much that they wanted to make a lot of suggestions to make it even better. Test screenings are for getting feedback on the film to see what direction it should go and let me assure you, it's going in the right direction. Mariah is going to shock people with her performance. Please see the film for yourself when it comes out and don't pay attention to malicious blogs.
Sincerely,
Lee Daniels
Producer/Director

Well, I doubt Daniels would say anything different. He better say it's good.

Personally, I don't care what people are going to say and it's unfortuante that this film will be all about Mariah succeededing or failing instead of the strength of the story. If it were any other actress in the role, I'd still want to see it but I'm driven by a story first and the actors second so I'm looking at it differently.
