Dionne Farris - "Wild seed, wild flower" I`ve never heard of her before, but i found a cheap copy of this album yesterday, and i thought i`d give it a chance.
Overall it isn`t a great album, but there are some good songs here... Anyone else know it?

Yeah, This album left a lot of people wanting more from her but nothing ever materialized.
The big hit Hopeless from the movie Love Jones which was written by Van Hunt is on here as well as I Know which is a nice tune. There’s a nice cover of Blackbird and a couple of other good songs like Food for Thought and Passion. I think someone posted about Dionne just a few days ago. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I had heard something about an album but that was years ago. I wonder if anything will actually come out of being with Mr. Knowles. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I read it on wikipedia. btw, i bought another album also, by a singer named Lisa Maffia, "First lady"... Is she big in the U.S?

Overall it isn`t a great album, but there are some good songs here... Anyone else know it? I thought WS--WF was a good album. It had a lot of great moments like the video hit "I Know," along with "11th Hour," "Stop To Think" and "Passion" which my ultimate favorite song off the entire LP. The way the guitars rock out on that tune are incredible. Matter of fact, that's in my list as one of my favorite songs of the '90s. You can play this album next to Meshell's Plantation Lullabies and you get a really rich sonic experience out of it.

I've been waiting for a follow-up to WS--WF for over a decade now. I simply cannot believe it's been that long. I pretty much moved on. "Hopeless" is a contemporary R&B/soul standard, IMHO. Didn't know Van Hunt penned the tune. It's a great morning song. I remember every morning a radio station in Los Angeles called KJLH would play this at 7 a.m. every day.

Hmmm, i`ve never really gotten into Meshell, i only know her from the song she did with Chaka Khan, "Never miss the water" I bought Chaka Khan's Epiphany collection partially because NMTW was on it. I really recommend starting with Planation Lullabies if you want to get into Meshell. It's an instrumentative, soulful, jazz-infused disc with the bite of sociopolitics and hip hop. IMHO, albums like Plantation Lullabies opened the doors to what would later be deemed "neo-soul" -- although she never would refer to her earlier material as that.

BTW, Dionne Farris collaborated with Guru on a track called "Fly Magnetic," from the latest installment of his Jazzmatazz series (2007):

Sunny, I never heard of Lisa Maffia. I don’t know if you would like MeShell, she’s not of the vocalist stylings that I know you prefer but music is beautiful, moving and rich. She is a musician as well as a songwriter and has quite a collection to date.
She first started out on Madonna’s Maverick label and fortunately for her fans she’s been putting out solid albums since her debut, Plantation Lullabies. She’s also worked/recorded with Wendy and Lisa, John Mellancamp, Lalah Hathaway and several jazz musicians. She's been on several soundtracks as well. Her music is very atmospheric in my opinion. It can make you dance or cry and her ballads are definitely great for those er, special moments. [Edited 8/23/07 7:11am] Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Hopeless isn't on it, well at least my copies doesn't have it. Yeah it's definitly a must-by. I personally think that you should start with Peace beyond Passion or Comfort woman if you wanna get into MeShell.
