Saw GEORGE CLINTON, BOBBY BROWN, ZAPP, LAKESIDE and MARY JANE GIRLS last night greek theatre in LA 8/18
--george clinton barely sings. he seems half brain dead. but it was awesome to see him and his crew for the first time. it was the shit. --he brought bobby brown on stage during "we want the funk" and NOBODY CARED. NOBODY. it was like they announced "bobby brown" and he walks out expecting a huge audience reaction and it was mostly an awkward silence. I yelled but i was the ONLY ONE who seemed to care. sad. --Mary Jane Girls lead singer (the stocky blonde black lady - dont remember her first name right now) - her voice was SHOT. just sounded used and abused. it was great to hear "in my house" and "all night long" however. they also covered "mary jane" and "give it to me baby" and when she said "we love you rick" the place went nuts. it was great to hear how people still have mad love for rick. ----lakeside were THE SURPRISE of the evening. i had no idea how much they kick ass live!!!!! i have their greatest hits but rarely listen to anything but the first 5 songs or so--man they killed it! by far the highlight --zapp, my favorite artist that was on the bill, left me a little disappointed, because their set was oh so short - "dance floor," "doo wa ditty" "more bounce" and "computer love." i wanted "i can make you dance," "be alright," "do it roger" and "heartbreaker!" overall great show tho...i got the hookup through work! can anyone recommend lakeside's best LP? thanks  I'll leave it alone babe...just be me | |

Good to hear that the guys still got it. Did you recognize any of the songs they played? It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Lakeside has never failed to show up and take care of the stage. Everytime i've had the chance to see them live, they were true crowd pleaser's.   National Funk League✮✮ | |

For some reason, I laughed out aloud when I read this. Given that B-Brown has destroyed any credibility he once had, I'm not surprised he was greeted by crickets. I believe she is the "glue" that holds them together. Was it 3 or 4 of them? When I saw them about 10 years ago, it was 3...Jo Jo, Candy and Corvette. As for Lakeside, I have never cared for an entire Lakeside album. I really enjoy Your Wish Is My Command, Shot of Love and Untouchables. If u want a good compilation, I recommend either the "Galactic Grooves" best of collection or the recent "Ultimate Collection" that was released. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I stand corrected on your behalf.. "baba". I have not seen them in some years, but never have i seen a bad Lakeside show. show up as in performance, ..but like you mentioned in your post above "They really threw down" so "i feel ya'" on being pissed for just 2 songs.

I saw Zapp in February and they were amazing.They performed a much longer show than the one you got.I don't think they left out any major hits. Aren't these shows ALOT of fun? I saw george and the p-funk allstars in 2002. The pfunk allstars performed 30 minutes before george took the stage and george sings a few verses here and there. We must not forget though george is 65 or 66 years old do george don't have that energy he once dead. The show was still funky. And at least george isn't tragic looking like sly while performing these days. Don't laugh at my funk

Best and wildest P-Funk show I've ever seen was in 2002 GC went completely off. Now I doubt he can do a show like that now but ever now and then he'll get crazy but not as often as the past. | |
