MADONNA: Oct. Releases and More Live Nation

Posted: 21 August 2007
Madonna's PR Liz Rosenberg spoke to Foxnews.com and confirmed the rumours about a possible move from her current record label:

Madonna is considering leaving her current label Warner Music Group (WMG) after her next two albums are released, but before any new contracts with Live Nation, WMG or any other company can be arranged, Rosenberg said, Madonna will release her forthcoming and as-yet untitled album - set to come out later this year or early next - and a greatest hits album with WMG, the label she has been with throughout her career.
'Once that’s done, Madonna is a free agent,' Rosenberg said. 'Her management is considering a move to another company.'

More on the possible Live Nation deal

Posted: 20 August 2007 - From timesonline.co.uk
Madonna is considering leaving Warner Music, her career-long record label, to move to Live Nation, the venues and promotions company, in a deal valued by music industry executives at about $100 million.
The agreement being talked about involves combining the superstar’s future recordings with her proven ability to generate massive income touring.
Warner has yet to acknowledge defeat, but industry executives expect the singer to move and receive a pay-out that would be in line with the £50 million that Robbie Williams received from EMI in 2002. It would be a significant coup for the Los Angeles-based Live Nation, which is Britain's leading venue owner and promoter, running Wembley Arena and owning the Brixton Academy. Until now, Live Nation has barely been involved in the recorded music business, although the talks reflect the fact that Madonna's future earnings are likely to be dominated by touring.
Confessions, her 2006 tour, grossed an estimated $260.1 million, according to Billboard, including eight sellout dates at Wembley Arena, which grossed £11.8 million.
The agreement reflects growing industry efforts to strike new deals with artists that include access to their touring income because the future for recording sales is so bleak.

nod And that's why I predict she will make this move. This deal will emphasize her tours and make her recording career secondary. I'm sure she's making a helluva lot more money from her concerts than from her recordings.

Live Nation aims to entice Madonna with deal
By Ray Waddell (August 21)

Nashville (Billboard)-The music industry is buzzing with talk that Madonna is considering an exit from her longtime home,Warner Music Group. Most of the focus centers on a deal said to be in the works with tour promoter Live Nation that would encompass recorded music, merchandising and other business concerns.

Live Nation, the world's largest live event producer and venue operator, has produced Madonna's past three world tours, which grossed about $400 million combined.

Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino has expressed a desire for the company to form longer-term and more complex relationships with artists. But a multifaceted deal with an artist of Madonna's stature--one that would include a label component as well as Madonna's lucrative touring business--would be the most ambitious undertaking under Rapino's watch.

One source estimated the value of the LiveNation offer to be $180 million, with the company potentially licensing the recording rights for about $30 million.

Madonna has two more albums due on her contract with WMG,according to a label spokeswoman; an album of new material is expected late this year or early 2008,and a greatest hits project.

It is doubtful that WMG,the only label to which Madonna has been signed, would give up the Material Girl without a fight.Sources said the company has made a counteroffer to Madonna that also includes a touring component that could be helmed by rival promoter AEG Live.AEG Live declined comment.

The WMG spokeswoman said the label hopes to continue with Madonna--who is "worshipped and respected as a great artist at the company"--but is not surprised that she is receiving rival offers.

I think she's gonna make this move too,but I think she's waiting to see what Warners offers her lol She's probably enjoying this....dangling a new record deal in front of their faces. They're faced with the prospect of losing one of their biggest artists.

I bet you're right!! evillol

I can't imagine how WB could come close to the kind of offer Live Nation can make. It's really an apples and oranges comparison: I don't see WB suddenly branching into concert promotion, etc. Well, they COULD, but wouldn't it make more sense to go with an experienced outfit? All WB can offer is basically a record deal, and we know how THAT biz is going.

An agreement, if struck, would create an entity that would manage all Madonna-related businesses, including albums, touring, merchandise and sponsorships over a multi-year period. Live Nation would acquire an equity stake in the pop diva's overall business.

The joint venture company would then look to enter into an agreement with a label to handle distribution and marketing support of any Madonna album releases.

My question is, who will be running that "entity"? hmmm

Live Nation/Madonna deal causing a commotion
Posted: 25 August 2007 - From Reuters/Billboard

If Live Nation is able to pull off a multifaceted deal with Madonna, one that would include a label component as well as the singer's lucrative touring and merchandising business, it would be the most ambitious undertaking yet under Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino's watch.
Speculation is rampant that Madonna is considering leaving Warner Bros. once her contract obligations are complete. Arthur Fogel, president of TNA International and chairman of Live Nation's global touring division, produced Madonna's last three world tours and is likely at the forefront of any negotiations between Madonna and Live Nation.
One source estimates the value of the Live Nation offer to be $180 million for a 10-year deal, with the touring giant potentially licensing the recording rights for roughly $30 million.
It is believed that Madonna has two more albums due on her contract with Warners. An album of new material is expected in late 2007, to be followed by a greatest hits project.
Sources say Warners has made a counteroffer to Madonna that also includes a touring component that could be helmed by rival promoter AEG Live.

I've seen this before, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to me!

I keep reading she's obligated to do one more "new" album and one more "greatest hits" -type thing for WB. So is #3 on that list the GH? The new album is going to be a double album, with a "special edition" or whatever featuring an extra video disc of some sort? confuse

Or maybe there's going to be a remixes collection AND another two-disc GH collection, with a "special edition" featuring a third (video) disc? confuse confuse confuse

I know that she owes Warners two more albums---a new studio album and a Greatest Hits compilation. It seems odd that they would release these projects so close to each other confuse For the greatest hits CD,it's likely that there will be a few different versions.
