Luckily, i've always been an adventurous listener and all through life my immediate friends have shared that same trait.

Agreed. Same Here. Like the saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together.

The guys on the dock (mostly 20-somethings) talk about rap and I come on saying how much I hate rap and let them know I listen to rock (I don't bother to mention jazz or funk). At first they trip and say it's "white boy music" that makes you a serial killer, then when they hear shit like Hendrix, Living Colour, Funkadelic, Fishbone and Spyz coming from my sound system they say "Ahh shit, those are niggers!" eek

WOOOWWW did I just read that? eek

it's hard to talk to some people about music sometimes when you're a total obsessed music geek and they're kinda like "well i bought a john mayer CD because it kinda goes with my living room right now" - i remember the first time someone said something like that, and i was shocked - nay, OFFENDED - that someone could look at music the way some people look at finding a painting that matches their couch. but it did remind me that not EVERYONE has an obsessive passion for music. which is too bad. or not. lol

Most of my friends are musicians & like a pretty wide variety of things. I'm still often way out there on a limb with some things though.

All my friends are deaf.

I usually HEAR songs and know what they are when they sing them. But still like Rich Boy and Chamillionare Plain White Tees UGK and Lil Wayne and Lil somebody and Lil somebody...I am just not interested in South Coast..and I tell them that over and over and over...

U gotta get to a artist that makes decent rap music or rap artists that are veterans or at least up to 5-10 years in the game and Ill pay attention.

Other than that the females loves some slow jams and I always know those.

Well to be honest, I think that people who populate this ORG are probably outside the mainstream when it comes to musical tastes, as most of us tend to like a wide variety of music. (Considering that the org itself is based around Prince, who is incredibly versatile in blending several genres of music into one cohesive whole, our musical tastes often reflect the Purple One.) Sure, we may our personal favorites outside of Prince (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Tori Amos, 70's funk, etc.), but as a group we tend to seek out different genres and artists just to expand our musical horizons. Most people are content to stay within their own favorite styles of music, whether it's "shit hop", manufactured top 40 crap, or emo rock, and they wouldn't be able to contribute any meaningful discussion of music and music trends.
