That Donna Summer "Love Is In Control" 12 Inch was a rare find. I bought it when it first came out but you never hear that version on the radio anymore. You lucked out on that one.

An even rarer find would be the 12 Inch version of "The Other Woman" by Ray Parker, Jr. I couldn't even find that one when it first came out, let alone today.

Yeah, I was pretty excited to find the Donna Summer album and the Love is in control single in the same bin (both $1). I was so happy I could've cried. I only went to the soul section, so one only knows what treasures lie in the rock vinyl clearance bin. Somebody was giving away ALL their Donna Summer albums, cause I found those two, The Wanderer, Live and More, A Love Trilogy, Four Seasons of Love, She Works Hard For the Money, Bad Girls and even Cats Without Claws. .

I couldn't find Gap Band IV and that was really disappointing, but I have a little more time. I was pretty excited about Chaka Khan, too. I was looking at that on CD and it was a little out of my price range. I'll keep my eye out for that The Other Woman 12-inch.

I remember seeing that one on CD a few years ago but it may be out of print by now. If you can't find that one, I think their 12 Inch collection may still be available on CD. It has the long 12 Inch versions of three songs from that album....."Early In The Morning", "You Dropped A Bomb On Me", and "Outstanding".

These record stores in my area are just sorry as hell. I've noticed lately that they have been weeding out old albums on CD and replacing them with only a greatest hits collection from the artist.

I was looking for it on vinyl, I wanted to play records at the party to make it more authentic, but I'll probably purchase it for $2.71. You can't beat that price with a stick!!! Thanks!

Carly Simon did indeed do an R&B/dance record. "Why" was a 1982 single written and produced by Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers of CHIC. It was a big flop in the US but it was a Top 10 hit in the UK. One of CHIC's best. If they weren't so busy giving away their best material to other artists, CHIC might have survived the 1980's.

There's a music video out there somewhere but here's just the audio: http://www.youtube.com/wa...ed&search=

I thought about doing that, but I nixed it since I know that 1982 clothing is too specific for my friends on the younger side. In the spirit of Berlin, my next thought was a purple party, but I also knew it was going to be hard to get some dudes to wear purple.

So the host will only request that everyone wear something red and/or white to match the red velvet cake I will be serving. biggrin

No, but I heard a housed up version that some DJ had made of "You're So Vain" in a club once. It's amazing what they can do with these computers nowadays. Her vocals were over some uptempo house music in perfect rhythm but they didn't sound like Alvin and The Chipmunks when they were speeded up. I don't know how the hell they did that. lol

You are going all out for that party. I'll be turning the big Four-O in a few weeks myself but I wouldn't know where to begin if I wanted to do a 1967 themed party. I guess Sonny and Cher, The Monkeys, The Mamas and The Papas, etc. Hell, I don't know. lol

The guests could wear bell bottoms, tye dye shirts, and long scraggly wigs with flowers in them. Later on maybe people could have group sex in tents and do some LSD. Hell no, I better not do a 1967 party. We would all end up in jail. lol

That party would freakin' amazing. I don't know, you might want to rethink nixing that idea. Nothing says "forty" like a little hedonism. biggrin
