Barbra Streisand is my least favorite singer of all time. I think everything she does is revolting. Sorry to those who love her. Mecha-Barbra is the only version of her I like.

Barbra Streisand. My mum loves her (my mum also loves Neil Diamond, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath), so I listened to Barbra alot even before there was this gay obligation to love her music.
I like her old work, I even ended up buying this four cd box of her (For The Roses) because there is this night club performance where she is BEING cabaret. Awfully wicked and funny.
I am no big, huge fan (sorry Erik), but am a huge admirer of her personality. SHe kicks ass.

And she has a cute son... sigh

hummm...

On a Clear Day You Can See Forever- because it's very happy
shiny people new agey Big Bookish

By the Way- describes issues in a complex esoteric love
affair. great song for drama queens

Evergreen- it's just lovely! think of all the people in
your life who remind you of the lyrics:

"...time we've learned to sail above
time won't change the meaning of
one love...ageless...and evergreen..."

Lost Inside of You- because it's a precise description of
how I feel when I'm at the beginning of
a life altering, earth shattering love
affair

With One More Look at You/Watch Closely Now- eerily touches
an autobiographical chord that mirrors
one of the most important chronicles of
my life; my first marriage and divorce.
Heck, for that reason you might as well
throw in thw whole "A Star Is Born"
Soundtrack!!!

The Main Event- 'cause it's so 70's cheeesey, & the 70's
is MY era! Honestly, I can't WAIT to get
old so I can have grandkids, and I can
TORTURE them with this song while I
dance around in mumus and wrinkled
knee- high stockings

Enough Is Enough- love it for the same cheesey reasons as
The Main Event. Although, on a deeper
level, even though I was a little kid
when this came out- something in me was
affected by the fact that this Black
diva and White Jewish icon were doing a
duet and criss-crossing all over the
charts...TOGETHER. In the moneymaking
climate of today's music industry, that
dosen't seem so groundbreaking, but back
THEN- for something like that to take
over the airwaves just 10+ years after
the civil rights movement and all...
my little heart was completely INTO that

75% of the GUILTY ALBUM- it's the romantic, tortured artist
crap that gets me every time

The Way He Makes Me Feel- it reminds you of that phase you
go through after you've fully
established that you're in love...
for real

Papa (Can You Hear Me)- great song for extremely stubborn,
hereditarily Type A personality
girls who need to mend fences with
their equally demanding dads (who
only mean them well)

Speak Low - from that OTHER Broadway album she
did...I am ashamed to admit that this
version of that song was actually the
first time I had heard it...and it's
a friggin' STANDARD, for God's Sakes!
because of her cover, I did end up
buying a few other covers of it, be-
cause I thought the lyrics were very
sexy in a mature kind of way...

I FORGOT about You Don't Bring Me Flowers! That one's a keeper, too! And New York State of Mind? Well in MY mind, there should only be THREE people in this lifetime allowed to sing that song in public-EVER; that would be Billy Joel, Randy Newman, and of course, Barbra Streisand (although I wouldn't be adverse to alllowing Paul Simon or James Taylor
to RECORD the song, since I am a bit partial to them as well)...

I always dug Aretha's version of "Somewhere" from...I think 1973. It's truly intoxicating.

4 those who r brave enough 2 say who u like/love artistically, regardless of the flak u know u're gonna get... I say, preach on!

My fave Barbra stuff:

"Somewhere" from the Broadway Album, (the whole Broadway album was hot!).

"You Don't Bring Me Flowers"

"Guilty"

Anything from the "Yentl" album... it remains my absolute favorite of hers.
