Many thanks. That soundtrack is one of my very favorite albums. I will say this for Superfly, though. It demonstrated Curtis Mayfield's ability to move his music forward from one era to the next without losing his core voice or message. He just wasn't following the trends, he was reinterpreting them and setting them. Other than James, Stevie and Marvin, I can't think of any other soul artists who were on that level. I mean, he was the consummate 60's soul crooner and transformed into a superbad prophet of the 70's. Not many artists turned that trick successfully. Cinnamon234 said: This is definitly my fave soundtrack of all time with the Saturday Night Fever and Purple Rain soundtracks not too far behind, but you can't deny the brilliance of Curtis or this album. I've heard people criticize the album's content for supposedly promoting drug use/having sympathetic views towards drug dealers but that's not what I took from the album. I don't feel the album is promoting that lifestyle at all.
I think the whole album is great but the main standout tracks on here IMO are: Freddie's Dead Pusherman Little Child Running Wild Give Me Your Love (Possibly the most underrated song on the album). Great Soundtrack indeed! | |
