Is "Superfly" The Greatest Soundtrack Ever?

This is definitly my fave soundtrack of all time with the Saturday Night Fever and Purple Rain soundtracks not too far behind, but you can't deny the brilliance of Curtis or this album. I've heard people criticize the album's content for supposedly promoting drug use/having sympathetic views towards drug dealers but that's not what I took from the album. I don't feel the album is promoting that lifestyle at all.

I think the whole album is great but the main standout tracks on here IMO are:

Freddie's Dead
Pusherman
Little Child Running Wild
Give Me Your Love (Possibly the most underrated song on the album).
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

It has a strong case. I got the 2 Disc 30th Anniversary collection with alternate versions of the original, it's great. It's hands down the best blaxplotation SDT.

I don't have the 2 disc edition but I'm thinking of buying it. And yeah "Superfly" is easily the best and most well known soundtrack of that genre.

A Mr. Hayes is on the line, and he has only one word to say:

THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I love Superfly and Shaft. They are two of the greatest. But neither is as powerful, both in the context of the film OR as an independent work, as this one.

Maybe because of Passion's deeply provocative and spiritual subject matter, but I'd answer your question with a "no." Passion as a soundtrack for a film is brilliant in and of its own right. As a statement of faith and love from a secular pop artist, it has few peers this side of A Love Supreme. Superfly and Shaft are uber-brilliant albums and statements of their era, but they can't match Passion.

And this is from someone who has listened to Shaft literally all of his life, and who loved Superfly long before he even thought about picking up a copy of Passion.

ISAAC HAYES: Who is the man who helped his brotha man win an Academy Award in a non-acting category (for Best Original Song)?

CHORUS: "Shaft"

ISAAC HAYES: You damn right.

Anyone who thinks the album is pro-drug has the brainpower of a flea. The anti-drug message is so obvious(in the album and the film). Listen to "No Thing on Me". Curtis is telling you don't get caught up in that lifestyle, or you'll end up being a fool for the man. IMO, calling Superfly a typical blaxploitation film is selling it short.

And yes, it is the best movie soundtrack ever.
