Happy Birth Day "Black Moses." He was the firt black artist to have a patinum album with Hot Buttered Soul.
It's also puzzling as last night I was watching a JB special and they stated his Live at the Apollo LP was the second best selling record of 1963. How could the second best selling selling record of a year not go platinum? Well back to Mr. Hayes. Happy B-Day PRINCE: Always and Forever

I gotta play this today: SHIT! That's one of the greatest compilations I ever bought. I'm not even mad it don't have most of the full versions on there except for that song you quoted and "Walk on By" (the long version is stunning!!!! Especially the guitar solo... wow... ). Isaac was a frigging genius, man! Happy 65th, Isaac.

[Edited 8/20/07 14:24pm] What I love about his version is that he turned that sucker out. It was originally written by Jim Webb and recorded by Glen Campbell in the version it was intended to be but when Isaac covered it, it turned into HIS song! Soulful and full of emotion, you felt it when Isaac started rapping and then when he sung the lyrics... you feel that pain, oh man... Hot Buttered Soul was a masterpiece bar none. I heard the longer version years ago and to hear Isaac vocally tear at it at the end was .

I heard the longer version years ago and to hear Isaac vocally tear at it at the end was . Yeah Hot Buttered Soul was one bad mutha! I remember buying the cassette (my introduction to Ike) sometime in the 90's and I wore that sucka out. I'm glad I brought it on CD last year. I describe Hot Buttered Soul as a long, soulful and painful road that every man must travel one time in his life. I'm telling you, I've been heartbroken many times and no other albums have fed my sadness and kept me in touch with my spirit and soul except Marvin Gaye's Here My Dear and Brother Ike's Hot Buttered Soul. Hot Buttered Soul is one of the baddest and greatest soul albums ever made. All four songs on that album make you feel the pain, betrayal, and sadness of love and agony. He and the Bar Kays were on point on this masterpiece! Check me out and add me on:
