There wasn't enough room That CD is missing a few other singles too: "Who's That Girl","Causing A Commotion","Everybody". One day, they'll make a Madonna compilation that gets it right. It's a travesty that WTG is not on TIC. Number 1 all over the world and one of the best songs of her career IMO. Obviously it reminds her of a movie she'd rather forget On a side note, you can get a great overview of Madonna's decline by comparing TIC with GHSF2. TIC only covers 7 years and yet there still wasn't enough room for all the classic singles. Despite missing some of her biggest and best hits it's still a brilliant, uplifting fun album. If anyone wants to know what's so great about pop music you can use that album as Exhibit A. Put it next to the snoozefest that is GHSF2 which covered a longer period and you see just how boring and bland she became in the 90s. It says a lot that the two weakest tracks on TIC were the new ones which had her working with newer, hipper collaborators; a warning of what was to come. If I had to pick one track that sums up just how sleep inducing Madonna's music became, it would have to be her AWFUL, AWFUL cover version of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You". That says it all. She took all the soul in that song, looked at it and said "We won't be needing you, thank you very much", then stuck her wooden cross right through Marvin Gaye's screaming heart. If it's possible to murder a dead man she did it right there. "Angel" is definately underestimated, or at least not as hailed by the public, becuase it never had a video and Madonna doesn't acknowledge it like some of her other classic hits ("Like A Virgin", "Holiday", "Into the Groove", etc.).
Sirius's Storbe (disco/classic dance) station plays it every so often as does The Big 80s, so it isn't totally forgotten.

Maybe her heart wasn't into the song, but it's my favorite of hers. There has to be some reason why she doesn't acknowledge it as much as she should. BTW, GVH2 could have had a lot more songs if it had not been for the ballad collection "Something To Remember". "I'll Remember" and "This Used To Be My Playground" are two huge hits that could have been on the set. Both are very emotional and strong tracks. You could also argue for "Impressive Instant", a fan favorite as well as one of Madonna's which wasn't a proper single becuase Warners sucks.

She took out the parts of the song that make it one of my all-time favorites (the guitar and the layered vocals). I listened to it again a few months ago after reading all the effusive praise here. It's not horrible (like I used to think), but I could do without it. "Angel" is the second-best song on Like a Virgin. "Dress You Up" is #1. Yeah, INCREDIBLY BLAND AND BORING is probably a more accurate description than "horrible". It wouldn't be so bad except this is a MARVIN GAYE song. He's hmmmm, a SOUL singer. Madonna, hmmmm, is not and that was painfully obvious here and through the whole Bedtime Stories album too. Marvin may have taken some comfort if he ever heard "Drowned World" though since that one has been known to make even lottery winners depressed. I heard sports teams play it in the changing rooms of the opposing team to make their competitors sleepy and suicidal. No way you can have any life in you after you've heard that self important, insomnia curing piece of steaming shit. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It shares it's title with a film she's ashamed of. That's it. As for her vocals there's nothing wrong with them. They are a million times better than any vocal performance on Ray Of Light for instance, where she sounded like a weaker version of Julie Andrews. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Alas, it didn't last, and I'm not someone who writes off women when they hit 35 either. I love older women, but I wouldn't touch Madonna with a barge poll now (probably as much for her hideous personality as her looks). You look at Rosanna Arquette, Kylie or Susanna Hoffs on the other hand and they're all just as attractive now. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
