Disco album of the day: "Songs of love" by ANITA WARD
Yes, this is the album with "Ring my bell"... There`s also some good ballads here, like "If i could feel that feeling again", and my favorite, "There`s no doubt about it"

I have this album on vinyl
Interestingly, the song "Ring My Bell" was an afterthought. The album (which consists mostly of ballads) was all ready to go when they decided that Anita needed a disco track."Ring My Bell" was originally written for Stacy Lattisaw to record, but it was given to Anita for her album. It was intended as a filler track, but instead it became a disco classic, going straight to Number One. The only other uptempo song on her album is the opener "Make Believe Lovers" which should have been the follow-up single. [Edited 8/18/07 14:38pm]

I`m glad they gave the song to Ward instead, it`s perfect for her voice. She also released a single called "Don`t drop my love", which sound very much like "Ring my bell"

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every track is good. I really love "There's No Doubt About It" and "If I Could Feel That Old Feeling Again". In addition to "Ring My Bell", those songs are classic. Her 2nd album was pretty good, but didn't measure up to "Songs of Love".
It's interesting that one of the people behind her success (Fredrick Knight), also went on to do some great work with Malaco records. He did a lot of Johnnie Taylor's later stuff. [Edited 8/18/07 20:06pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It was definitely a "club" song; where as "Ring My Bell" was a Dance/Disco/Funk-type song (listen to the 8min version of "Ring My Bell" and tell me it's not funky). If u listen 2 the 2 songs, you can tell they were trying to recapture the magic of "Ring My Bell", but failed to achieve that. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Yeah, and I really felt bad for her."Ring My Bell" became a surprise, unexpected hit and so they hastily threw together another song that sounded just like it."Don't Drop My Love" is a contrived, uneventful song. They should have released the excellent "Make Believe Lovers" as her follow-up single in the summer of 79,then waited a year or so before releasing a second album.
