Mandy moore had a free concert in san jose( They have a series of concerts each summer in the park they r all free)

She was possibly the worst singer i have ever seen ! just another manufactured product when she came onstage she does the same rythym for like 1hr! all the songs sounded alike and it was a sharp contrast to the week b4 when they had toni toni toni that was a nice concert but they didnt play much of their own music.

Mandy moore had the same brown dress on too the shoe were different!

I actually really liked her version. I can't stand the Rhianna version. Ick Ick Ick.

Don't like her bland voice, but even she can hear how great the song is. It's the melody that makes it stand out from everything else in the charts. The song's so good that even her and her band's best efforts to turn it into elevator music don't completely ruin it.

I haven't poster here in months, but I was wondering what you all think of Mandy Moore's version of Rihanna's song "Umbrella?"

Here is the video of her singing it for Pepsi Covers

http://music.yahoo.com/pr...3-20070813

Ok that was horrible. She totally stripped away the best part of a really simple song.

Valley joke notwithstanding, I want to expound upon my "class" reference. I'm struck when I compare Mandy's performance with Rihanna's orignal video.

Mandy's performance focuses on her interpretation of a great song, while Rihanna cavorts about like a stripper (and is even nude in one segment) in the video.

I wonder about young female artists, about the respective trajectories they pick or allow to be picked for their careers. Rarely does someone start out low and soar higher, image-wise. Mandy has had a consistently clean image and, as a result, seems to be in a position to record a less classy act's song at whim and give a material-focused rendering of it.

That to me is why I prefer Mandy's version. Though I do like Rihanna's vocal phrasing.

Mandy. Well. She's one of the most bland, boring, mediocre singers and actresses out there. She took every edge out of the song. *yawns*

You seem to be praising her more for what she's not than for what she is. She doesn't take her clothes off. Wow, give her a medal. I'm not crazy about today's pop tarts either, but I'm even less crazy about bland and mediocre nonentities trying to hitch a free ride on the back of great songs they can't do justice to.

I didn't articulate that well, so I see why I left the impression you inferred. Without the tacky accoutrements so frequently seen with Rihanna and similar female singers, Mandy gives an unencumbered performance that emphasizes the substance of a great song. It might seem bland to you, and I'm well aware of the Boone-ization of darker artists' songs throughout the history of American pop. I like the performance for what it is, as well as for what it isn't.

I wish artists such as Rihanna felt courageous or liberated enough to travel a similar, classier path rather than being served up like the pop tarts you mentioned.

Wow. It seems like yesterday when Mandy Moore was the third-tier version of Britney Spears during the teen pop craze. Now, she is attempting to establish herself as a "serious" artist. Give me a break.

Now, now. I thought that comment was kind of sad, because I figured she doesn't listen to top 40 because she never made the top 40. lol

However, I just looked it up and apparently "I Wanna Be With You" peaked at #24. confused I've never heard it.

I don't listen to top 40. Has nothing at all to do with me not ever making the top 40 myself. I just figured it had more to do with her taste in music.

She sang it well, but I'm not impressed with the song as a whole. She sings better than Rihanna, but most people do.

Mandy is one of the most uninteresting artists out there. So All-American and unexciting. But I guess that's why she's bigger in the US than in other parts of the world. Not a fan of Rihanna either, but I prefer her version.

lol It was a joke! I don't listen to top 40 either; however, unlike the two of us (I assume), Mandy was actually trying to make the top 40 not too long ago.

She sang it well, but I'm not impressed with the song as a whole. She sings better than Rihanna, but most people do.

Even though I don't listen to the radio, "Umbrella" is one of those songs that found its way to me anyway (like "Promiscuous" last year). I think it's a great song.

Actually, I hadn't even heard the FULL song until after I posted on this. I heard the first minute and was basically shrug. But then it goes all new wave-ish and I like it more. Catchy...too bad about that nasally voice. I even checked out the video. lol She's got some legs.

You're already being converted. nod The 80s vibe is what makes the song.

It's a pretty decent bubble gum pop offering. Her pitch and voice dynamics are pretty good on there. Where pop music is concerned, Moore is definitely eons better than that nasel phlegm-gargling sound that Britney Spears does. I'm not a big fan of a lot of this music by far, but I'm sorry, Britney wouldn't understand how to employ pitch or dynamic if someone bottled it up for her and injected it in her ass hrmph
