To be honest, i don`t know much about the music, i only have "Greatest hits 2 and more" because Shirley Murdock sing lead on some of the tracks (including a cover of "I will always love you") But i though i`d learn more about Zapp (and Rogers) by starting the discussion

Zapp and Roger had some good stuff...they also had some bad stuff.
I wouldn't consider some of their albums to be "great" or "good", but each of them contain some good work. The weakest of all (to me) is Zapp V (with the remake of Ooo Baby Baby. That album is BAD! I also consider Zapp IV bad (even though it does contain Computer Love). If you just want a single greatest hits compilation, I recommend: This cd contains all of their greatest hits that everyone knows. It is good from start to finish and also has a Mega-Mix (that actually is good). If you want to try some of their albums, My favorites are: These are some of my favorite electro-funk albums of all time. If you want a true comprehensive greatest hits package, I recommend: This package has a little of everything. It has some of their early stuff (before they became "Zapp") in addition to ALL of their big hits. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Doo Wah Ditty: Here she comes, just a walking down the street singing doo wah ditty ditty dum ditty do Dude, that was Manfred Mann and that was released way back in 1964. Zapp's song was "Doo Wah Ditty (BLOW THAT THING)" and both songs are unrelated: Say I wanna blow (doo wah) Just let me blow (doo wah ditty) Blow my thing (wah ditty), oh baby Blow my thing (wah ditty)... Released in 1982! Anyway, here my favorite joints from the baddest man to play the talkbox and his family: More Bounce to the Ounce Computer Love In the Mix It Doesn't Really Matter (which is a lesson of black music history ) Be Alright Do It Roger I Heard It Through the Grapevine Heartbreaker Dance Floor I Can Make You Dance Everybody (Get Up) Brand New Player So Ruff, So Tuff I Wanna Be Your Man Night & Day Slow & Easy The Midnight Hour Thanks to my parents, I grew up on Roger & Zapp.

More Bounce To The Ounce. One of the funkiest songs ever made. And it pretty much kicked off the West Coast G-Funk thang. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

was there ever a "zapp III" album or did one of Roger's solo albums count as that?

Zapp was a classic funk band with a classic funk band visionary (Roger Troutman) leading the way. As someone said, IMO "More Bounce to the Ounce" is one of the funkiest songs ever made. Though they rarely deviated from their classic vocoder/synthesizer funk (occasionally they had some blues-inspired songs like "Be Alright") and it got tiring by the latter 1980s, Zapp generally delivered the goods.
In addition to "More Bounce to the Ounce" and "Be Alright," other classic Zapp songs are: * "Dance Floor" * Roger's version of "I Heard It through the Grapevine" * "So Ruff, So Tuff" another "solo effort" from Roger * "Do It Roger" * "Do Wa Ditty (Blow That Thang)" * "I Can Make You Dance" * "Heartbreaker" * "Computer Love" * "I Want to Be Your Man" THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

That's what I used to love about this forum - lots of people sharing music recommendations. I've come across a lot of new music this way, and have made sure I take the time to publicly and/or privately thank people for the recommends. Many in here lately seem content to snipe at each other for having differing tastes. It gets boring. But, yeah, enjoy the Zapp. They're a fave of mine, too.

My next door neighbor was blasting Zapp & Roger. "Be Alright" is a personal favorite. My grandma had died some years ago and my cousins were "cheering me up" with this song. Silly as it sounds and they're some silly mofo's anyways, that's the memory that comes to mind whenever I hear that song.

Do not bother to see them live. They are a total sham.
I'm amazed they can even tour under that name. UGH! test

I'm amazed they can even tour under that name. UGH! I agree. I saw Roger and Zapp live about 10 years ago and it was a mess. Most people didn't realize how bad it was. They just danced to More Bounce. After the show, I got a chance to meet Roger he was a nice guy, but his performance was something to be desired. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

They had some great stuff on their albums but they also had some songs that I didn't like. As for "Zapp IV" and "Zapp V", I had stopped buying their albums by that time and strictly bought their 45s that I liked. Roger's "The Saga Continues" was the last full album of their's that I bought because I wasn't impressed with the lead singles for IV and V. In the early 1990s, I bought Roger's "Bridging The Gap" album because, by that time, singles were hard to find. Also, in the 1990s I was absolutely desperate for some funk. If you want to try some of their albums, My favorites are:
Yeah, I got all those as well as Roger's "The Saga Continues". Andy is a four letter word.
