That's why I haven't posted a list. That's what I was just going to ask ~ where is your list? And, David Sylvian may be replaced by The Cure. I'm on the fence. Of course, as an ELDER I may get more choices! Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

I'm in the elder category too.....let's give ourselves an extra 2 or 3 choices, just for seniority sake, eh? I'm in ~ can we convince tA???? Music is the language of the spirit. Miles said: Harlepolis said: I used to be one of the crowd of those who deemed Louis Armestrong as an "Uncle Tom" untill I saw the Ken Burns' movie; Jazz.
My view of him was def shifted after that. The man was and still remains as an exceptional talent. Agreed. Even allowing for some faults and curious omissions, I still view the Ken Burns 'Jazz' series as an excellent primer for jazz history, and it certainly helped open my eyes about Louis Armstrong. I'd liked his singing before that, but the series opened me up to his great early work, his awesome trumpet playing and to the full extent of his influence on other artists, in both the jazz and pop worlds of the 1920s-30s and beyond. I agree, that Ken Burns documentary opened my eyes to A LOT. Without getting too pretentious, his great music has a quality I can only describe as 'grace'. He was/ is a deep and great soul, I think.
I really like your take on things.

...work in progress...
Beethoven Bach Stravinsky or Shostakovich to mix in the Russian sound ...which is really a HUGE amount of music if I can include all the various recordings by different orchestras and performers.... Tori Amos (especially if it includes all her downloadable live covers of so many of the artists I have to exclude) some instrumental jazz but research required...Miles, Duke, or Louis, I think considering Rolling Stones Bob Dylan David Bowie (not familiar with his work, but have I have a sense it could keep me occupied for quite a while) So a bulk of classical, some classical influenced pop, some rock and roll, and some jazz for a mix of genres. I would also like to add one or two Middle Eastern or Eastern European artists. the work of progress continues...but I'm afraid such a limited scope would make my musical interest dry up a bit after a while...I guess I'd just have to start writing my own at that point.

I find many artists not prolific enough. And I've heard too much beatles stuff to last me forever. I'm always looking out for something new. small circles, big wheels!

With a day of thought, here is my list. I could never tire of hearing these artists, and that's all right with me.
1. Prince - Well of course, I'm on a website bearing his name, what else would I answer with? 2. Stevie Wonder - Since two things can not occupy the same spot at the same time and designating him to 1-A is sacrilege, Stevie winds up here. 3. Marvin Gaye - Read above statement. 4. Depeche Mode - Of all the electro, synth, new wave groups who are still around, DM stands out as the Kings of the hill. 5. SADE - A woman's voice and presence is sorely needed, and Ms. Adu is Queen of my heart. 6. Teena Marie - I like her, simple as that. 7. Miles Davis - What can I say that hasn't already been said? 8. Parliment-Funkadelic - It would be against the TRUE FUNK rules to separate the two. 9. Ludwig Von Beethoven - Yeah, he's a brand name but he wouldn't be in the mix if he wasn't damn good. 10. Curtis Mayfield - Just because. Jeux Sans Frontiers
