But then, Muddy didn't have the outrageous personality that is Little Richard - the original Prince! Compare photos of the Richard in the '50s and P c. mid-'80s, and all becomes clear. biggrin

During the Purple Rain Mania in '84, Little Richard said this about Prince - "He's ME!"

I loved Little Richard in "Down & Out in Beverly Hills".

My favorite was when he hosted "Friday Night Videos". He introduced Prince's "I Wish U Heaven" video and said.....

Prince, honey, I was wearing purple when you were in pampers!
Uh....SHUT UP!!!!!

I loved Little Richard's appearances on Howard Stern. Howard would get Richard fired up over the "white man" ripping him off(specifically that b!tch-ass Pat Boone). biggrin

I always considered Little Richard the king of glam rock. Even though he borrowed from Esqurita (someone correct my spelling if I'm wrong), he pioneered true outlandish rock and roll.

The Dolls, Alice, P, KISS, Bowie, Manson..they all owe it to Little Richard.

I've been saying he's the KING. smile

He was one of the first black entertainers to be widely accepted by the world even if he was considered a threat in the US. So popular he had audiences packed in London, France, Russia, Germany and New Zealand even.

A LOT of musicians and pop stars wouldn't even be a blip without the contributions this man made. He said it so personally and I don't blame him.

"I AM THE ARCHITECT! I AM THE INNOVATOR! I AM THE EMANCIPATOR!"

Listen to him, he's telling the truth. headbang WOOOO! SHUT UP! lol

.....and don't forget THE QUASAR OF ROCK 'N' ROLL!! biggrin

Little Richard was the original and the innovator. Without him there would have been no Prince, no Michael, No James Brown or anything. His songs had a rawness and energy to them that can not be duplicated today and he was overtly bisexual.
17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Little Richard's kickass, but please, let's not turn this into a _____ vs. Elvis thread.

Elvis Presley
Chuck Berry
Jerry Lee Lewis
Little Richard
Buddy Holly

There is no one King of Rock. They ALL were. Rock music as we know it would not exist without the contributions of any one of these men. You remove something from the puzzle, and whatever we'd be listening to now, it wouldn't be this. You can't pit these artists against each other because they were responsible for different things in Rock's genesis. Let them share the crown.

don't tell the elvis fans that lol

I am an Elvis fan. But he never called himself the King of anything, and most fans that do (save the hardcore crazies, but they exist in every fanbase) only do it out of affection, not in seriousness.

Do people that refer to Prince as His Highness or his Royal Badness actually believe he's royalty?

Add Bo Diddley and Bill Haley to those five. smile

Them too. That was a quick list, but you know where I was headed with it. smile

Little Richard was a great artist, and a huge influence. The problem was, his career as a major star only really lasted about 4 years , from 1955-1959. After that, he never really had a major hit, and became an "oldies" artist. And the black community pretty much forgot him (when was the last time you heard one of his tunes on an R&B station). We as a people are pretty ahistorical musically; if something is considered "old", it's completely forgotten and put on the slag heap

Well said

And thumbs up! to the thread starter for this thread. It's true that Little Richard deserves a lot more credit than he gets. He started it all and he was really out there doing something that no one else was doing at the time. And like most black artists during that time though, he had to put up with a lot of crap in a racist music indsustry. I still can't believe to this day that Pat Boone's lame, white bread version of "Tutti Frutti" did better than Little Richard's. That was really some bulls*it.
