Van Hunt in L.A. - Aug. 23rd @ Temple Bar (TONITE!)

VAN HUNT

Thursday, August 23rd
(Soul)

89.9 KCRW PRESENTS
VAN HUNT
Pop songs are supposed to be simple. Sex, too. Neither ever really is. Few artists make this as abundantly clear as Van Hunt. His songs work your brain and your backside with equal vigor, spot-welding sophisticated melodies to an insistent groove and piling on lyrics that are as much about the consequences of intimacy and desire as celebrating bedroom action. Funky, sexy music isn’t supposed to be this challenging; it’s a lark, a diversion. Van Hunt’s music is that, and more with an organic view of rock laced R&B.
Doors 9:00pm | $15

It's funny, in the other VH thread I quipped about how I find it hard to believe that VH would ever play for 15 bucks. eek lol

I'm really diggin' "Turn My TV On" and "The Lowest 1 of My Desires." He seems to be growing with each outing.

Nothing. It's great. I just thought it was low for an artist of his caliber.

Well, I guess. Maybe it's me trying to figure out how does Pretty Ricky sell out concerts at $45+ a pop and true artists like VH go for 15 bucks. I know it's the Teenie Boppers that fuel the Hip/Crunk & B groups but it still just doesn't seem right.

This Frank Zappa quote (used recently) would seem appropriate here...

"The amount of records sold and the amount of tickets sold does not tell you whether or not music is good.
And anytime that people believe that is the only way you can tell the difference between good music and bad music, you're in big trouble
.
"

... cool

What seems right is a relatively new artist who doesn't have any big hits should price his performances so he can attract new fans. VH might be worth checking at this rate. Too bad it's a midweek gig. sad

Yeah what the fuck is up with that? I see this all too often with artists I wanna see. Give them a Fri, Sat, or Sun. date for Christ's sake.

Weekends are definitely better. I often noticed the midweek scheduling with concerts and that's caused conflict with my hectic work schedule in the past. I've usually been stock piled with meetings and paper work. So, the weekends is my time to chillax cool .

Everyone can't always play on the weekends. Scheduling is one of the most difficult parts of gigging. If you like an artist, you can stand to lose a couple of hours off your daily routine, right? Is sleep THAT important to y'all?
We've become a society of convenience.
You L.A. heads better git yo asses out to that show! (Then report back here on how it was) wink

Seems like mid-week gigs are more likely to get cancelled though (due to low sales, I'm guessing) confused A small club in Oakland was gonna host Anthony David this Thursday but it got cancelled. I've taken too many days during the week already so I couldn't check him out but I wanted to shrug
