It's supposed to drop down about 10-15 degrees in LA this weekend..the high being around 77 degrees...that would make for a nice time.

I think I'm going to see Ben as well.

I went down for the Emotions set and was greatly disappointed. The band was not properly sound checked by the assigned start time. It took a good 20 minutes to work things out. The girl's voices were great and well in tune. Bass and drums were kicking, but the lead guitar was a step off. I didn't hear that extra little Al McKay lick and lost interest.

I was on my way to get positiion for Ben Harper's set. My wife hung back. This was kind of the SOUL stage cuz Deniece Williams was next and Morris Day & The Time would close. She said the guitarist I complained about came out to sing Maurice's lead on "Boogie Wonderland" and they closed with "Best Of My Love".

By the time I got over to that stage the crowd was packed deep for some group called Blonde Redhead. They sounded flat out horrible, but had a thick crowd. Still, I got a good spot so that when their set ended I moved up to a really choice spot front and center.

At about the time Harper was ready to start, my wife rang me up to tell me Deneice Williams, who followed the Emotions, took a fall off the edge of the stage. Tragic, but comical, she was singing from down in the pit. She was committed to finishing the set and paramedics sat her up on stage to finish. Not sure of injuries, but family members in the audience were very concerned about her well-being.

My wife said there was a very long wait for The Time to get set up. She didn't bother to hang and said it was packed too thick for her tastes.

Harper's set was absolutely rock-solid. Big thick crowd. Huge sound from the stage monitors. Faves, choice covers and a new song from a great band.
