Sans the piano, Natalie Cole was the '70s female version of Ray Charles: addicted on drugs but was still able to create such a great collection of music with that wonderful voice of hers.

"This Will Be" was one of many favorites from the "sophisticated lady". Her "Our Love" is another classic.

"This Will Be" is pure rock & roll/soul to me. nod

Natalie said the day that song debuted on the radio, she was out on the street getting her heroin fix and said she can faintly hear her own voice on the radio as she was on the street dazed out like "wtf? eek "

Shortly after that, she quit heroin and she was actually drug free for a while before she started abusing cocaine.

Thankfully though she's been clean since 1983 and if you saw her appearance on Macy Gray's "Finally Made Me Happy", she looks exactly the same as she did 32 years before! woot!

You couldn't go wrong with Natalie back in the 1970's! She was at the top of her game back then and those songs are still timeless today.

My all-time favorite Natalie song is La Costa! music

That is a very true story! According to her autobiography, Natalie was in Chicago when 'This Will Be' debuted on the radio and that was the same day she had to perform at this club called "Buddy's", which was a famous club in Chicago. When she performed that night at Buddy's, she said that even though she was high on heroin, she belted out those notes so good, that the audiences' jaws dropped. She also said that when she went home that same night, after that acclaimed performance at Buddy's, she got sick and that's when she made the choice that heroin wasn't her thing. That's one scary, but amazing story!

Calligraphy

You'll find the horns that likely inspired those on "It's About that Walk," on this track...
