Bootleg cds at independent record stores....

I went to a record store today to look for a Michael Henderson greatest hits cd.
Well, they had it but it looked like a bootleg. The picture on the cd cover was stretched/distorted, the cover edges were perforated and looked like it was printed from an inkjet printer. After further inspection, I discovered that the barcode also appeared to be printed from an inkjet printer. It did not look like the standard barcode that is found on legit cds. I checked the other MH cds and they all looked the same.

Because the store also sells used cds, I thought perhaps it was just a repackaged used cd...so I asked one of the employees where the used cds were andhe pointed to another section of the store.

The kicker is that they are sell it for $15.99. confused

Is this common? Has anyone experienced this before?

Say what? eek

Princey would have a fit it he knew about that? lol

I so wanted to walk away with that cd...it had all of my favorite MH cuts on it. But there was no way in hell I was going to pay $16 for a bootleg that was being sold as if it came straight from the distributer.

btw...I got a chance to see MH a week ago. excited

I refuse to spend that much for an official MH CD. I just went to iTunes and got the 5 songs I needed.

So you saw him? I am so jealous. How was he?

I remember in the early 90s,going into an independent record store and finding ALOT of Prince bootlegs lol I thought I had died and gone to heaven, lol. They had vinyl copies of 'The Black Album',a Lovesexy live concert 3-LP set,the 'Crucial' boot and numerous other albums.I had heard about these records and now here they were, right in front of me.

I doubt this would happen again today.

The show was very good. He sung all of his hits. He started the show with "We Are Here To Geek You Up" and ended it with "Wide Receiver". I was in heaven. cloud9

I may order the cd from Amazon. Maybe I'll be able to buy a used one.

I don't wanna get off topic
(as I usually do)
but speaking of Michael Henderson

I'd like to get more into his stuff
this is the only album of his that I have

where should I start with him?

I don't see it often anymore. The 90's, yes. And it may be regional, but I don't think I ever saw a Prince boot in any Seattle independents.

Sometimes I see them, but they'll be in the used section...

I'm rediscovering MH so I don't think I can be of any help.

I am going to start with this one:

1 Goin' Places
2 In the Night-time
3 At the Concert
4 Take Me, I'm Yours
5 Happy - Instrumental
6 We Can Go On
7 Prove It!
8 Make Me Feel Like
9 What I'm Feeling For You
10 Wide Receiver
11 Be My Girl
12 Let Me Love You
13 Valentine Love
14 Do It All
15 Make Me Feel Better

btw...when I saw him in concert the other week, he said that he would be coming out with an new album this year and that it had been 21 years since he had last been in the studio.

i don't think it was Hi-Fi. Isn't Hi-Fi the one where half of the store was vinyl and the other half CDs?

This store, you would walk in the front door and look to your left and there was the whole wall full of Prince bootlegs concerts and chit.

I have that one lol Bought it on vinyl in the early 90s.Contains songs like "Girl O My Dreams","Data Bank" and the title track. These boots are funny...in many cases, they spell the song titles wrong,or come up with the wrong titles lol

on one of these boots that I have, the song "Data Bank" is listed as "Pretty Face" nuts

Does the D = Detroit? If so, that's where I'm from. Street Corner record store in Southfield is the store that had the bootleg MH cds.

lol yeah, it does

Street Corner has some good ones but then Flip Side Record in Clawson also has some but they get pricey and again, you've got to listen before you buy.
