I'll always have love for Angie Stone. But, I stopped purchasing her albums after Mahogany Soul because it seems like she's chasing hip-hop credibility. I know her "roots" are with Sequence, but in the end those days were nothing more than novelty. I would love to hear Angie record with a band of musicians. Her voice is way too strong to play "sing-along" on samples. If she wants hip hop flavor while maintaining the soul, her best bet is to let Raphael Saadiq produce her entire LP. | |
