Something is really disturbing about this Kanye/50 Cent thing

First let me say im not buying either album and dont have any interest in them with the exception of who they might use in a video (female wise). But something is disturbing about this whole campaign, first is the fact that ALL of it is a marketing ploy by both labels to get people to buy the records and not buy a bootleg, after all, bootlegs, wont help either with the "bet". But what is also troubling is this is all happening on September 11th? Now im not one to focus on dates like that, but U know at some point one of these camps is gonna slip up and market this as some sort of September 11th battle which is really beyond tacky, not that i wouldnt expect it. The fun part now is to see who slips up, my bet is Kanye, since he tends to shoot his mouth off, im sure he's gonna make some remark about 9/11, but this is what i mean, its all a ploy at this point, a game. If 50 cent loses he'll retire and then in a few years there will be HYPE of a comback and then it will be about as big as Jay Z's was, lasted about 5 minutes. And if Kanye slips up, it will be media attention to an album, so once again, America is pretty damn tacky. These two labels should be ashamed of doing it this way and doing it on that day.

How is this a reflection on "America"?

The Americans involved are using poor judgement, but to say "so once again, America is pretty damn tacky" is certainly going overboard.

Get a damn grip...as you said, it's all a marketing ploy.

Its a huge refelction on America im sorry to say. Not to get into a political debate about America, but % wise as good as a country it is, we are still a very "do for me, screw you" culture, no matter how much we claim that we arent.

Kanye never accepted Fitty's challenge, so this is purely a Fitty thing at this point. Kanye turned the whole thing down citing that he has no beef with anyone. You're making this out to be more that what it really is.

Across America communities are participating in Presidential candidate debates, protesting Bush and the war AND planning ceremonies for Sept 11th.

Not EVERY American buys into the "do for me, screw you" culture. 50 cent does not speak for most of America.

And to leave the America debate...I hope 50 cent loses...he says he'll not record another solo project if he does so that's a bonus.

Yes, you are. Again, Kanye turned down Fitty's offer. It's done. Move on.

50 is obviously going to sell more even though his per4mance on BET Awards left much to be desired..his 2 singles arent doing shit and they hardly are playing the videos either.

Kanye's two tracks are aiight. I didnt like him sampling Daft Punk (a la Busta Rhymes) for "Stronger" because "Harder Better.." was my shit and its too soon to be sampling.

Anyway Kanye's album is definitley going to be more interesting and critically acclaimed than 50's..but the females are gonna run and get 50's whack bullshit.

Actually, I think the September 11th thing is just a coincidence because it happens to fall on a Tuesday this year. The day that the music industry USUALLY releases new music on.

Now, if either slips up and makes it in any kind of way about the September 11th, there will be such a backlash, both of their asses and their labels will have to retire!

I don't think so. The five singles 50 has already released have all basically flopped. His time is over(YAY!!!!!) Kanye and T.I. are on top now

Oh i know all too well about Tuesday release days. And i dont think the world should stop doing things on Sept 11th, but here we are the first "New release" tuesday since 2001, and its turning into a game. I do agree that if either camp slips up and makes a stupid comment they wont have to worry about ever recording again.

I don't see how this is a reflection on anything but two artists battling each other over a cd release date. confused

Not that that's a bad thing because I'd be cool with that, really!smile I just hope it doesn't come to that, for the sake of those that have to follow them in the industry. I mean those seeking the chance to turn around the nonsense of the last decade or so, like my son, who are working hard at putting out their music! He and they shouldn't have to suffer because of the idiotic mistakes of those who've NOW got the juice! cool

Peopre are really running with this... Kanye has not agreed to any type of bet... 50 has been vocal about Def Jam moving Kanye's release date and when Def Jam refused he made a statement about retiring if Kanye cd does better than his
and he has since back down..

From HipHopdx.com

As far as 50's statement that he would retire if Kanye West outsold him on September 11, he backed down--somewhat. 50 referred to himself as a "boss," while he called Kanye a "worker bee," saying that if Kanye outsold him it would mean that "he did a better job than me on his album." Assuming that there are no more mistakes on the part of Interscope, it appears that this one won't be settled until Curtis drops next month.
"Don't get lost in the hype," 50 quipped. "I got the right records, so we're gonna sit here and I'll see you next time. Maybe next time they can send me off to the pastures. But right now, I'm gonna stick around and sell this record--and I will be number one on September 11."

Why can’t he just shut up? He looks really lame right about now. He should just let the music speak for itself or maybe he finally realized that the music released/leaked so far has been crap.
