While the organ piece is known for its dramatic intro often used in horror films, a longer listen reveals unrivaled beauty, as well.

I 'll most definitely be seeking out that Bach piece and giving it a listen.

And of course, Bach's music has things in common with funk - like mad counter-point all over the place - multiple rhythm and melody parts overlaid and doing different things all at the same time.
So, with his Bach-like organ playing, this may make Bernie Worrell the funk reincarnation of JS Bach! [Edited 8/13/07 9:52am]

Exactly. The beats per measure is within Funks limits certainly[/b:]. Miles said: So, with his Bach-like organ playing, this may make Bernie Worrell the funk reincarnation of JS Bach!
[b]Hey, George "Dr Funkenstein" Clinton did say that P-Funk (ie the mothership ) were time travelers. And like the saying goes, Good Funk don't die it multiples and trancends time. Got Funk & Will Travel . Swing Down ,I Wanna Ride. [Edited 8/13/07 19:44pm]

Bach is just brilliant. How about the Ciaconne from Violin Sonatas and Partitas (written about his wife's death).
If you like dark creepy music, have you listened to Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets, or Brahm's Requiem? You'll never hear these pieces played on an aeroplane. (All the passengers would be so scared they'd adopt the crash position).

I adore him. But then I love the harpsichord, and that instrument always brings Bach to mind for me. I grew up on him (and other classical music) actually and refused to listen to anything but classical music until I was about 11. And if you'd like to hear an INCREDIBLE jazz big band rendition of this piece (and other Bach comps), check this album: http://www.amazon.com/Bac...498&sr=8-5 I heard the "Toccata and Fugue" on public radio a few years ago and had to buy this CD immediately! It's terrific.
