justin timberlake the new prince?

Why is it people in the media keep refering to justin timberlake as the new prince. I mean, prince is a musical genius were as justin timberlake is a talentless mickey mouse club boyband muppet who spends his time trying to act gangster in the back of shitty hip hop videos.

he's a decent pop act but that's about it. sure, justin's latest cd is better than anything prince has done this decade (excluding rainbow children), but prince has 20 years of excellent music behind him whereas justin has a boy band and two solo efforts. there is just no comparison at this point.

if justin does manage to stick around another 15 years i think it would be more accurate to call him the next madonna rather than the next prince. he's more of her style of trendy pop than prince's pop-funk-with-a-purpose style. lol

The comparison is more of a statement of the condition of music today.

There are tons of multi-instrumentalists who make very good, interesting music; sadly, many of them are pushed to the back burner for the hot hip-pop produced artist or studio invention. Nothing wrong with the latter, but when the musicians get pushed backstage, many people will think that the entertainers, who are mainly creations of their producers, are geniuses in and of themselves.

Just a lay opinion.

It's also about the perception of Prince, who was always compared to Michael & Madonna. That happened because he was a pop superstar, a flashy song & dance guy. And that's what Justin is, too, though not nearly as gifted as Michael or daring & stylish as Madonna. So the comparison isn't really anything new.

Prince separates himself from virtually every peer, by his ability to be a peer of someone on a different level.

Is he as strong a songwriter as Lennon-McCartney, does he play guitar as well as Jimi/Steve Vai, does he dance as well as Michael, is he as creative as Miles, is he as funky as James, does he produce as well as Quincy, and on and on and on.

Even if the answer is generally "no" lol at least the question can be asked.

Really?!? So, before he was the new Michael Jackson. Now, he's the new Prince. The media should just give it up. Folks are not buying into the hype of Justin Timberlake like they wish the public too. True he's had one of the most successful, if not the most successful albums out this year, but so what. That doesn't mean he's on Prince or Michael Jackson's level. The media really needs to stop smoking and tripping. Even Stevie Wonder can see through the bullshit. Timberlake isn't even close. He should enjoy his music career while it lasts, cause he's part of the new skool. Old skool performers such as Prince and MJ was very well trained and have an incredible knack for lasting long and standing the test of time without resulting to gimmicks for sustaining power. The media is pathetic. If they love him so much, great. But, don't try to shove their love for him down the throats of those who could care less. Dayum!
