Of Montreal has become one of my new favorite bands Yes, they have that great New Wave/Glam/Pop style that I love. They take the best of artists like Bowie and Prince and Duran and make it into their own unique Indie Rock style. You can also hear similarities between them and contemporary bands like Scissor Sisters and Franz Ferdinand. I had the privelege of seeing them live last year and they took me by surprise. Firstly, they're not from Montreal, but Athens, GA. And also they've been around for a while apparently. So I was surprised that I'd never heard of them. But apparently they were popular enough to sell out Irving Plaza. They were on a double bill with the ever-so-soulful techno-geek Jamie Lidell. So while I was there to see my main UK soulboy, I was quite entertained by Of Montreal's theatrical, psychedelic, glam/pop circus. They were quite fun. And I met the singer and guitarist after the show too and they were very nice. So if you wanna see something akin to Bowie and Prince in their younger nasty days, check out Of Montreal. [Edited 7/31/07 14:59pm] NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

What I like about them is that they indeed have been on a steady rise for some time, instead of being catapulted into the limelight and hailed as the next big thing, like Franz Ferdinand or The Arcade Fire.
Their album titles were what jumped up at me and made me try out their studd, Satanic Panic in the Atticbeing the first. I traced their albums back and then got their latest. Indeed a steady rise.

I have their album Bedside Drama: a Petite Tragedy. I've never really got into it, though - it's always sounded like a lesser Neutral Milk Hotel or Olivia Tremor Control. Maybe I need to try out some of their recent albums.

But you gotta see them live though. They're a real treat. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
