PET SHOP BOYS TO RELEASE "DISCO 4" - Madonna, Yoko Ono and Bowie are in it!

DISCO 4!!!!
The latest in Pet Shop Boys' Disco series is set for release in September.
Pet Shop Boys are preparing the Parlophone release of the latest in their series of "Disco" remix albums. Whereas previous albums in the series have mainly included remixes of PSB tracks by other artists and DJs, Chris and Neil were keen to collect on one album some of their remixes of other artists and their own recent remixes of PSB tracks. Accordingly, Disco 4 will include Pet Shop Boys' extended dance mixes of The Killers, Madonna, Yoko Ono, Rammstein, Atomizer and David Bowie, as well as a new extended mix of "Integral" and their maxi-mix of "I'm with Stupid". The album will be released on CD but not on digital download sites as digital release rights were not available from the artists concerned. Provisional release date is September 24th but this may change. Disco 4 follows on from Disco (1986), Disco 2 (1994) and Disco 3 (2003).

The full track-listing is as follows:
1. The Killers: Read My Mind (PSB Stars Are Blazing mix)
2. David Bowie with Pet Shop Boys: Hallo Spaceboy (PSB Extended mix)
3. Pet Shop Boys: Integral (PSB Perfect Immaculate mix)
4. Yoko Ono: Walking On Thin Ice (PSB Electro mix)
5. Madonna: Sorry (PSB Maxi-mix)
6. Atomizer: Hooked On Radiation (PSB Orange Alert mix)
7. Rammstein: Mein Teil (PSB There Are No Guitars On This mix)
8. Pet Shop Boys: I'm with Stupid (PSB Maxi-mix)

Pet Shop Boys would like to thank The Killers, Madonna, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Rammstein and Atomizer for allowing their songs to appear on this album.

Reports of "Integral" being released as a single are inaccurate, although promo copies of Pet Shop Boys' "Perfect Immaculate mix" will be made available to club DJs and selected radio DJs. A politically-inspired video for the track is currently being edited and will be on You Tube and this site as soon as it is finished. The song was originally written as a protest against the proposed introduction of ID cards in the UK and the gradual erosion of personal freedom taking place in the current political climate; the video reflects this.

The title sounds more impressive than the actual set. I was thinking it was new songs or these stars on PSB remixes. Kind of surprised Kylie isn't on there since they did a song for her not that long ago and she shares labels.

I love that 'Falling' song they did with Kylie.

I'm actually more surprised that Madonna is on the album. I'd assumed that they would hardly be friendly after the Pet Shop Boys co-wrote and produced Robbie Williams' 'She's Madonna'...

PSB gave Kylie the song Falling which was based on a unreleased mix of Go West. Kylie didn't like the way the song was, so her producers re-did it in a more Kylie fashion.

Also Kylie did co-lead vocals on PSB's "In denial" and she even performed the song on her Showgirl tour with a pre-recorded Neil voice.

Sorry for being such a spoil sport, but Madonna approved the song. Robbie previewed it to her, before releasing it.

Madonna is not the bitch people think she is. She has a sense of humour.

^ Besides, it's a tongue-in-cheek song of adoration for Madonna. I doubt she could consider it offensive.

I think it was Junior Vasquez who made a track out of a voicemail Madonna had left for him - that's the kind of thing I could imagine taking offense at, but not the Robbie Williams track.

sad It's not a proper Disco release! This project would suit better under another name. Besides, it's too soon for a Disco 4. I dunno, I am very puritanical when it comes to the Disco releases. I understand that each has it's own "theme" but I really think this goes a little beyond what a proper Disco album should be.

I kind of agree even though I don't own "Disco" or "Disco 2" (which I heard was awful!). "Disco 3", which is half new songs, is incredible. 10 tracks. Very simple new fun dance "fixes" (they are rather short and pleasing...no dragging filler). This is a strange set to call "Disco 4" I think. It would be cool if they just came up with a definitive collection of songs they worked on through the years, though.

Actually...yes. Never got 3, though have been interested in getting it, though the album it's from isn't my favorite by a long shot. I really wasn't too into the first one either.

A remix set is certainly in order. They did have that MIX cd in the LTD ED of PopArt, but 10 songs hardly covers anything. It's also time for another B-Side comp. That's overdue.

I think it's going to be a while before another B side album, Further Listening went up to Bilingual so that leaves just 3 albums with B sides not in some form of package. Mike may have more info cause he helped me with some INFO. wink

Huh, I hadn't ever bought Disco 3 (cuz I hated Disco 2 so much)...I'll have to track this one down somehow.

The special compilation of B-sides that only the chosen ones (You, me and some other fanatic PSB fans) had to pleasure to have. It's very rare and scarce.

I didn't feel Disco 3 was a real Disco cd - it was like a special edition
to Release without having to buy a 2nd copy of Release.
I like it a lot but not as a Disco cd.

I agree - calling this new one Disco 4 just seems hinky.

I'm happy with Disco 4. For someone who doesn't buy singles, these mixes are a real treat.

I also agree on your view on Disco 3. Disco 3 must be one of the PSB releases I played the most.

I like Disco 3 a lot but I haven't heard raves about it (or jeers, either). As I said before, it's nearly half new songs with a few mixes of "Release" tracks (as well as the b-side "Sexy Northerner" and a track I think from their play, titled "Here").

Honestly I've never been impressed with any of the Disco stuff to keep them around for very long. I think I still have disco 3 somewhere but it hasn't seen the cd player in over probably 7, 8 yrs. But I'd assume that its just me not feeling em.

It's interesting how the only theme in the Disco series is that there is no theme. lol

The first album was a collection of 12" remixes, then was the continuous segue of new remixes, then the companion album to Release, and now a compilation of remixes they made for other artists...I have all the previous albums, and will most likely get this one as well at some point.

There's no way it's going to be better than part 3 (how could you top hearing great new songs? wink ), but I suppose it will do its job of entertaining people in a club-like atmospehere. And it's also a convenient marketing channel to people like me who've never been that excited about PSB remixing other artists, and have never bought the individual singles.

(What I'm really waiting for is Alternative 2 to gather all those B-sides I have lying around on different cds, which are just too much trouble to listen to.)

So... You don't think people like me aren't fans even though I happen to have all the albums and videos, and a few dozen singles? wink

Different fans are interested in different things, and I can pretty much guarantee that an album marketed under the PSB name will sell more copies to the PSB fans than a Rammstein single. That's why it's a convenient marketing tool.

Looking back on the tracklist I think this looks pretty good -
most of these remixes I don't have.
Its PSB related without me having to buy a lot of singles I not sure about.
Its like something a fan would put together on iTunes. biggrin
