I`d still like to read it though.... Actually, its the same book with addition of couple of more chapters,,,and afew upgraded infos Starred Review. Taraborrelli has totally rewritten, expanded and updated his 1989 bio Call Her Miss Ross to create what is now truly a definitive biography. The new book boasts epic research, including extensive interviews with Ross and virtually all the major people in her life (his enviable first-hand access began in the 1970s when he started an international fan club for the Supremes and later worked for Mary Wilson). This time out, there is more background about the early Supremes years that yields a complex and fascinating tale of ambition, ego, insecurities and harsh showbiz realities. Taraborrelli delves more deeply into Ross's psyche, allowing readers to fully appreciate her drive to escape Detroit and conquer the music world. The book also benefits greatly from Taraborrelli's thoughtful analysis of conflicting viewpoints represented in published memoirs by Ross, Wilson, Berry Gordy, and a slew of Motown performers. It's to Taraborrelli's credit that he refuses to cast people as one-dimensional heroes, victims or villains. This riveting page-turner is actually a tribute to a woman who has survived and thrived for more than four decades in a profession littered with one-hit wonders. 16-pages of photos. (Sept.) Ross herself must have been furious when the book came out, i would love to hear about her reaction...

Chile, this is anything but a slow read I read the first book, it was very thorough. I can't see the author adding to or subtracting much from the book, apart from updating us on that little incident at Heathrow airport and her 24 hours in a LA jail.

I'm pretty content with this one giving the fact that "Call Me Miss Ross" is out-of-stock and I couldn't find it anywhere. And the updates that he added are the old stories that didn't make it in the 1st draft

I own the first edition and I read more than half of it, but had to put it down because of sensory overload. This man is an amazing biographer and when he writes a book, he makes you feel like you're there. Diana Ross is a very complex woman, you love her for talent and beauty, but at the same time you hate her because of the way she's treated some people and because of some of things she's done.
But doesn't that just about describe anyone been in the entertainment industry. Prince. **cough** I would also highly recommend the book he wrote about Michael Jackson called "The Magic and The Madness." I swear I felt like I was growing up with Michael as I read the book. Amazing. The research and narrative are phenomenal. I hope he updates this one, too. As a journalist, I can appreciate his dedication to telling the whole truth. [Edited 8/10/07 12:15pm]

I read the `89 book. Good read.
I love this author. He presents his research from the perspectives of so many different people that it allows you to have an understanding of "the truth" when opinions differ about certain events. Also, reading an individual's history over time also gives you a better context for their recurring behavior. I recommend his Michael Jackson book as well. I heard he has a Madonna one but I'm not even sure... if there is I haven't read it.

It was actually a biography and not a coffe table book, so it had the standard 20-30 pages of small-to-medium sized photos.
