Chrisette Michelle - Talented R There any existing threads about her, yet? link -
http://www.youtube.com/wa...PYTno&NR=1 If u like Jill Scott, then you will love Ms.Chrisette. People complain on this board about there are no real singers out here or R&B is dead, blah, blah, blah - what's funny is that there will be someone on this board who will actually complain about her also; you can't please everybody. Anyway, just check her out, this is for people who appreciate natural vocal talent. She doesn't scream or try to go over board like my girl, Mary J. Her voice is so natural that it seems to come easy for her, she sounds like she could be suitable for jazz, blues, and contemporary or old school r&b. I'm curious how Dej Jam will try to market her? People who like Ciara, Rhianna, Beyonce, etc, probably will say she's boring, right? But I think the mature music listener, like myself, will love her for her artistry and vocal talent. I hope they push her the way Alicia Keys was pushed....I hope they dont try to make her into a sex symbol...it doesn't look like they will, but at the same time, don't make her like India Irie. In other words, make her more accessible where people feel they can relate to her. Ok, I'm done..LOL later...

Wow. I like her voice but her material... well not the lyrics, but the music is just too John Legend-ish tinkly tinkly Nordstrom's piano/supper club type music. She needs to go blues/soul or neo-soul or just straight soul.
And I agree, I hope she doesn't get pushed into to the sex kitten image while watering her voice/vocal styling down either. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

I like her alot and I wish her much success. I don’t think she’ll go the sex kitten way (at least I hope) as she seems very grounded and the epitome of a lady. It doesn't hurt that she has a good relationship with her parents who seem to be a caring pair.
I’d like to hear a little more range or creativity on her next album but I’ve been enjoying her debut effort quite a bit. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

good one. That is kind of funny. I guess he was trying to say that "India Arie" is not the most attractive woman in the world. Plus, she makes a point in standing out. I like the latter trait about her, at least. Some of her songs click with me and other don't. I, myself have never really been "BLOWN AWAY" by her. But, she's pretty good at what she does.

Well she sings a Hell of a lot better than Alecia Keys. Plus she can play great on the Piano.

I think what people mostly complain about is what is pushed and what is not. I mean we can all really remember a time when artists where different from each other, the 70's and 80's and some of the 90's, but as the years have gone on everyone seems to be in a mold, same prodcuers, same sounds, same approach in marketing.RB is a very broad spectrum but it seems that very little of that spectrum is pushed by labels, there is no common ground, shit there arent even any RB groups out there that play instruments? how sad is that, RB used to be all about the playing and now its really not, though there are some trying to save that, the thing is that labels arent trying to save that by any means. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

i thought he meant how india arie comes off as a steril angelic figure with no problems in the world that spirituality won't cure....she needs to sing as if her fingernails are dirty every once and awhile...if i hear one more uplifting song from her i am going to shover her head up Oprah's ass. Yes, that's what I meant, Chrisette doesn't want to go that route.

Well, I for one LIKE Chrisette. I'm sick of all of these so-called "edgy" drama queen singers who spew on and on about their hate for men and these "damsel-in-distress" ass walking trainwrecks who have so many flaws in their real lives that their drama overshadows their talent. I don't wanna see these reality shows, I don't want to see "a day in the life of" fill in the blank. I don't want to read about all of the men and women they've slept with or anything. I just want singers to SING and SING WELL. Chrisette does just that. I hope she doesn't get forced to do anything more (since she is on def jam). America has developed a sick, sadistic drama fetish. Its time for this country to grow up. I'm waiting for the big industry crash that facilitates the return to MUSIC. We're headed in that direction. Singers like Chrisette get overshadowed by singers with more drama and less talent. Its a shame that people can be so stupid and easily misguided.

I made a thread about Chrisette Michelle
http://prince.org/msg/8/235620 Since so many people care about real talent, I obvioulsy expected Chrisette to have the same success as Amy Winehouse since they both do the same type of music... To be honest I was sure Chrisette would flop. A black artist singing retro soul music, serioulsy who cares ? [Edited 8/9/07 12:10pm]
