Music publishers join copyright infringement case against YouTube at 21:20 on August 6, 2007, EST.
NEW YORK (AP) - A group of music publishing companies said Monday it is joining a copyright infringement lawsuit against Google Inc.'s video-sharing site YouTube. The National Music Publishers' Association said it was joining the lawsuit out of concern that many songwriters weren't receiving proper compensation when their music appeared on YouTube videos. The lawsuit also includes as plaintiffs the Football Association Premier League and Viacom Inc., a media company that owns MTV, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. The plaintiffs say YouTube is breaking the law by hosting video clips that they hold the copyrights to. However, YouTube says it's complying with the law by immediately taking down any clips found to be violating copyrights after receiving notification. David Israelite, chief executive of the NMPA, said in a statement that the music publishers' group was "very concerned about YouTube's approach to copyright." The lawsuits have been combined for trial purposes into one case being heard by U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton in New York. Music publishing companies administer the copyrights of songwriters and composers and collect the royalties that are due to them. ©The Canadian Press, 2007

Music publishing companies administer the copyrights of songwriters and composers and collect the royalties that are due to them. ©The Canadian Press, 2007 oh dear i dont think youtube is going to last imo, here in the uk the goverment is looking into making video hosting sites responsible for the content they host and those in breach faces a heavy fine. this is because the other week ADULTS filmed Kids as young as 4yrs old fighting one another and coaching them to do it, hitting each other while pinned to the floor. imo for it to last their going to have to vett all videos before posting them and this takes time and money so it might well be the end of free hosting | |

heres my issue with this, i get charged an outrageous sum a month by cable providers giving me MTV and VH1 (music stations) and then dont play any music? So basically i dropped my cable because i found myself not even watching it, YOU TUBE at least gives me a chance to see the new _____ video because i know that one of those stations isnt going to play it. I think labels need to shake up MTV and VH1 and BET to playing music again instead of Road Rules and Flav and bullshit like that.
