I hate when different stores have different CDs with different bonus tracks!
All along,I thought that Chaka's remake of "Shining Star" should be on this album.

This is a good record. Am I the only one feeling "Back In The day"? There's some slick bass lines on this record and some nice arrangements. I don't think she butchered Jimi's song at all. It was a nice interpretation of it. I'm feelin' Ladies Man and Supr Life, too. Her duet with Michael McDonald was pretty good. She may have had to redo a couple of her cuts because the previous versions may belong to Rufus. All in all, its a good CD.

Mos def NOT standard R&B production. I also dig her using her classic "Whoaaa...Ohhhh.... Whoooaahhh..." background vox about 3/4 of the way through. Peace. "He's a musician's musician..."

I love the arrangements...real music!!! real instruments!!! i give jimmy and terry much props for producing an album that never gets bogged down in sameness.
Superlife has it going on...and I love SOTT. There is moment towards the end when she flips the song upside down and makes it her own...it gave me chills. Space for sale...

Dammitt, I want some jams. I find it interesting you listed whatcha gonna do for me. That is as midtempo as you can get. I have yet to listen to this new cd. You have to realize most of chaka's funkier jams were with rufus. She did very little or next to nothing funky as a solo artist. You keep talking about wanting funk. I suggest you keep watching those old soul train episodes or buying the old stuff from the 70's and 80's because there is nothing new resembling funk these days. Don't laugh at my funk

OK, I bought the album this evening when I got off of work. Y'all motherfuckers owe me thirteen dollars because the album does not live up to it's title. I'll have to listen to it some more to give y'all my honest opinion but, from first listen, the only track that I halfway like is "Foolish Fool".
I'll say this first, Chaka's voice is absolutely great and is kickin' full force just like it was in the 70s and 80s. If that is what y'all mean by Chaka is like she was in the old school, then you are absolutely right. However, since when did voice turn Andy on? The music behind the voice is lacking. It sounds like Chaka was trying really hard to funk but she still tried to make an album that could fit in and get radio airplay these days with the weak sounding drum machines on some of the tracks. That's a fuckin' no-no for me. On the tracks where the bass sounded really great, the drum machines were the weak ones like they have today. And on the tracks where the drums sounded really great, the track was too damn slow. It sounded like an album where she was trying to bring the old school and new school together and you know how I feel about that....fuck the new school altogether. Make it hard and funky and if the new school don't like, well, fuck them up the ass with a diseased dick. A lot of the tracks had potential to be great songs, but as I said before, they sounded like they were weakened to appeal to today's audiences. One of the slow songs sounded OK, I can't remember, maybe it was "Angel". I don't know, hell, I'm drinkin' tonight. Anyway, I'll give y'all a better review when I sober up. But you know what they say, people really tell it like it is when they've had a few brews. You're getting the real deal tonight at first listen with some drinks in my stystem. Tomorrow I'll probably be a lot more tolerant of the album. Andy is a four letter word.

However, the drums, drum machines, or whatever they are, ruined it for me. As I said in my earlier post, there was some great playing of certain instruments within the songs but the fact that some of today's elements in music were added (such as the type of drum machines used), absolutely ruined the songs for me. When I hear today's elements, I immediately feel.....shit hop. Drums and bass give a song power and strength but if you weaken either one of them, I can't tolerate it. You can change anything else but don't fuck with the drums and bass. Those are the things that make you wanna shake ass. . . [Edited 9/28/07 19:18pm] Andy is a four letter word.

So for all who've heard all the bonus tracks, which version should I get?
Circuit City 1 bonus, Wal-mart 2 bonus which includes Shining Star remake. Don't say buy both because that aint gonna happen. I don't have EWF tribute album so I will prolly get Wal-mart version and hopefully "find" the other bonus track. Thanks in advance for any help. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Right now,I'm checking out the extra stuff that comes with the disc...the downloadable song lyrics, the interview where Chaka discusses each track, etc. I got mine at Wal-Mart (quit smirking) and it has two bonus tracks - not the "Let's Go" that you mentioned. One is "Once You Get Started" and the other is EWF's "Shining Star" -- a very nice FUNKY cover! Two bonus tracks....Damn! Circuit City has one and it's cost $9.99....dare I go to Wal-Mart?
