My suspicion is that this release will be sensory overload for the hippity-hop crowd.
(outside of the one track that's partially aimed at them) It just has too much damn music (strong vocal melodies, harmony, instruments, arrangements, etc) When you're currently used to only hearing somebody talkin loud and sayin' nothin' over a jacked beat, tracks like these could be extremely disorienting. The worst thing that could happen is some rocket scientist will decide that certain tracks need...shudder...a REMIX. You know, get rid of some of that unnecessary music and break it down to its bare essentials. Tunes like Angel and Ladies Man might even put 'em in the hospital. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Having heard Sign O' the Xs, I must attest that it is not a weak song AT ALL. It's a very tight, clever and fierce cover Seriously, leave that classikhan shit at the door. If you're gonna cover, cover it right 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

So, you dont like classikhan... No. NOT. AT. ALL! Listen, it's not heinous or anything but we are dealing with a legend here. She obviously held back on those covers, surely out of respect but I don't want to hear her breathe. I want to hear her SING! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I didn't care for 'ClassiKhan' either.Chaka is a powerful, fiery vocalist who shouldn't waste her talent on predictable standards and jazz ballads. This new album puts 'ClassiKhan' to shame!

Putting "the paddles" on this one...
...so it doesn't die prior to the drop date. SoulAlive should get the credit for the post once it's been released. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

wow it's coming out a day after my b day, I'm really curious about the cover songs. I heard Chaka's cover of Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing from the tribute album and her singing was way too over the top for that kind of song.

I'm sure you've heard an "advance" copy by now I love how she incorporated the vamp background wailing from "I'm Every Woman" @ the end of "Sign O' The Times", diviiine I also love her spin on Joni Mitchell's "Ladies Man" and Jimi's "Castles Made Of Sand"(A reliable source told me that Jesse Johnson is playing that guitar ). Foolish Fool, Hail The Wrong, The Tony Maiden revisit,,,,oh hell, the whole shebang got my heart on lock It is refreshing to hear her being "natural" if you know what I mean. That album's sound is right up her alley, and she sounds the happiest doing this stuff.

Who else loves that song?? From what i've heard, she wrote it based on entries from her diary. I've mentioned to others that this is my favorite song on the album. The chord progression, story, melody and arrangement have all the qualities to make it a Pop standard. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
